baroclinic_instability
And..... it's back!! Looks pretty darn cold here... This short-term arctic dump I actually have confidence in--it may not be as impressive as the first three, but I will take it after 3 previous fails. Chicago WX
Below zero temps look likely for LAF for 1 or 2 nights later this week. Yep. 12z MEX has a high of 9º for Friday at LAF. We all know that signal.

Yeah...not sure exactly which day will be coldest but Friday or Saturday are looking good. Potential is there to really tank if we get a good storm a few days from now, although the -19 from 2009 might be safe.

Chicago WX
12z Euro has -10º or lower low temps for the eastern 2/3 of MN, eastern 1/2 of IA, and pretty much all of WI for Friday morning. 0 to -5º line gets down to STL. Much more impressive cold plunge incoming at 144. -25º or lower entering the NW corner of MN for Sunday morning.
daddylonglegs
I'm pretty safe to assume -10F or lower will be reached here... I'm starting to feel that -20F is also pretty safe bet... Now how much lower we go then that could be the big question. I'm good to about -25F but after that some of my trees may start to get damaged I should live by the lake. Wouldn't have to worry about these tree problems

Maybe I'm reading too much into this...but these 12z Euro temps are amazing, especially considering that this model run doesn't even have a fully phased storm. In the off-chance that the day 3-4 storm were to phase, then look out below on the temps. Fun times ahead.

Nah, you're right. 12z Euro waits for a kicker/clipper to really bring down the cold stuff for Sunday morning...though it's a quick shot with #2 as it moves east pretty fast. Hoosier
18z GFS is flirting with -10 for LAF on Friday morning. This is 2m temps but it's probably going to be preferable over MOS in this setup.

Ottawa Blizzard
It's looking like I should get a good blast of arctic air on Saturday-Sunday. Now, if we could only get some high ratio snows as well...
Hoosier
Gonna be interesting to see what the temps do on Friday morning. Laying down a fresh blanket of snow can't hurt but this does not look like an ideal radiational cooling setup here.
daddylonglegs
For La Crosse it looks like the wind stays up until overnight hours Thurs, when it should finally relax...thus setting the stage for the temps to plunge.

Not sure why they are colder than everyone else--Fosston typically isn't an overly cold spot. Could there be something wrong with the sensor? I am at -8 right now. It is so cold outside. Probably many schools will be closed tomorrow. I am curious to know what Tower is at right now.
