Kudos to Glenn "H" Schwartz

I just saw Glenn update his winter forecast which originally called for warmer and less snow (he even forecasted no storms above 10" for PHL). He is now going for colder than normal for Jan/Feb and above normal for March with a snow total for PHL of 30 to 40".

The anchor asked him a question as to why he chose to update...I thought he gave a classy and great answer...... that he needed to do so as soon as possible as mets do not need to be like a captain and go down with the ship.

Very impressive!

Hurricane is by far the best in the area. This winter alot of forcasters had a tough time, at least he changes when necessary unlike some others.

Wow he was on the weather channel I did not know that.

Schwartz got his nickname when he worked at WNYW-TV in New York City from 1986-1990. An anchorman dubbed him “Hurricane” after watching old footage of Schwartz being blown around in one. As a Hurricane Specialist for The Weather Channel in Atlanta from 1985 – ‘86, he produced hurricane documentaries for the network and the National Science Foundation. He also became the network’s first “hurricane chaser.”

Glenn rocks!

Thanks folks. As weather fanatics we sometimes lose sight of what the general public knows compared to us. Even though there has been a lot of talk about this strange winter on these boards, the public hasn't been a part of that. So, it's better to update now, rather than waiting until March and then admit you busted.

And, yes, I did work for The Weather Channel from 85-86. I was Jim Cantore before Jim Cantore was Jim Cantore. LOL.

Glenn,

I really respected this. A good lesson to learn. My students thought it was classy as well. And they enjoyed the Glenside scene of clearing snow off the car.

Glenn, I wish I lived in your "forecast area", but I'm too far north and west...in Schuylkill County. On your maps you do have us included, but I know you're paid to forecast for SEPA. That being said, even with the limited coverage, I respect and trust your forecasts and analysis' and look to them for insight along with those of some of the locals up my way.

Thanks for the work you do and for being so accessible here.

Glenn, you're a class act! I've been a big fan ever since I was a kid and remember flying under the clouds with Earthwatch haha. Thanks for all you do!

Glenn,

As someone who works in media/communications, couldn't agree more. Good move.

Best,

Jamie
