January GENERAL BANTER

Roberts posts in the other thread reminded me of that when he said gsp was forecasting highs in the mid to upper 40s with a really cold airmass in place. This makes no sense but it doesn't stop people like burns from copying it. Then of course they all are always too warm in cad situations, no matter how badly they get burned over and over and regardless of whether the models are showing subfreezing temps all day. They will still go upper 30s :axe: and of course they bust

I was actually referring to a TV station on the upstate in that thread, not the NWS, sorry if I misled. But you're right , everyone has gone warm on the cold outbreaks last Winter and this one. Not a single day was underforecast or even close to the verified high temps for the CLT or GSP region, from as little as 2 days out. The only reason I mentioned it is because a lot of my friends on FB or here ask me when making plans, and see my forecast graphics were much colder during the 5 major cold outbreaks we've been through, and they asked why mine was so different from what they were seeing on TV.

Candyman, thanks for the write up and insight into the forecasting process.

Lookout, to your point about discipilnary consquences for TV mets. I think forcing GB to pee on an electric fence would be ample punishment for some of his on air antics.

Can someone tell me when the snow would start in my location from the storm next week according to what the models show? Would it be Monday during the day or at night? Just wondering if I should make plans to change some plans I have for Monday night.

Check the weather forecast Sunday night.

For all backyard posters... Here is a decent site that will give you a rough time frame of when to expect precip and how much. Again, it's not going to do EVERY town, but it does a decent job at showing you when things can happen (personal experience shows this forecasts too low for highs and sometimes too high for lows... if that made sense ;) ). I use it mainly to get a rough idea of when models say it's supposed to start raining.

The answer in contained within your post. I'll cut and paste for you.

This might be a good thread for a public service announcement.

Some of you folks might be needing a generator early next week. From personal experience, I highly recommend the Honda EU3000iSA. It's a great midsize generator for getting you through extended outages. It's very quite and sips the gas. At 3,000 watts, it's enough to run the basics like a refrigerator, microwave, radio, etc. Most importantly, it has a Honda-brand internal inverter that prevents it from frying sensitive electronics. The same cannot be said for some of the cheaper generators you might find at the large hardware stores. No matter what you buy, make sure it has an internal inverter.

I've also heard great things about the smaller Honda EU2000iA and some of the Yamaha generators, but I've not owned them and cannot speak from experience. Places like Northern Tool and farm supply stores usually carry the Hondas.

Brick should be weenie of the year. based off his posts today I'd say he is a lock.... check the other thread if you don't believe me.

He needs to start taking his meds. twice daily before this storm gets any closer. Ideal timing would be just prior to 12Z and 0Z model runs.

Well, we can't seem to banter about it there, so I banter about it here in the banter thread.

Banter away, Brick. Every time you mention QPFs someone jumps down your throat. Meanwhile, everyone -- and I mean everyone and his brother -- is talking QPFs. rolleyes.gif
