Chinook
Now that the storm is all over, what Kocin Uccellini storm or other storm is the best analog for December 26-27? I think the phasing of the two upper lows is sort of like the Superstorm 93 (which actually involved 3 upper lows), but obviously the polar jet vs. subtropical jet was a different story in December 2010 than in March 93. I couldn't find another good analog.
RUNNAWAYICEBERG
Jan 2000 was talked about alot around here. have you looked at that?
Chris L
December 1915 looks like a great analog....
Chinook
I did not see December 1915 in Kocin and Uccellini's book. Here is a comparison of January 25, 2000, 12z, and December 25 2010, 12z. The surface low development looked pretty similar in these two cases.
Chris L
I'll check. I have the H500 maps for that online if you want to see them.

Chris L
This (although it might not be the most IDEAL match, but the sfc low track/bomb/H500 looks very good). http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/cgi-bin/data/20thC_Rean/gary.pl?year=1915&month=12&day=14&hour=06&var=z500slpsprd_nh&Submit=Create+Plot
RUNNAWAYICEBERG
check that. jan 2000 was a miller b? if so..that doesnt match well. the only resemblence these two have is kinda how the low hooked in just in time for NJ, the upper air patterns look nothing alike. from my eyes at least. famartin
check that. jan 2000 was a miller b? No. Jan 2000 was Miller A. Dec 2000 was Miller B.
Huffwx
No. Jan 2000 was Miller A. Dec 2000 was Miller B. Do you mean Jan 25th?? I think that may be hard to qualify as either. It wasn't a gulf low---it form off the SC coast. the SW came from Montana-- through Kansas , TN and then off the shore. I'd lean more miller B, but it really doesn't fit either definition in a classic manner.

KU depicts it as having developed along the northeast shore of the Gulf (Volume 1 page 52) and includes it in the list of Miller A storms (page 53).
