Brian5671
should have known we were cooked in 01-02 with a 12/16 first freeze....
tombo82685
should have known we were cooked in 01-02 with a 12/16 first freeze.... not sure you can go solely off that. Look at last yr 12/7 first freeze, and nyc had 50 plus inches of snow.

earthlight
We came really close back in late October. NYC LOWEST: 33 ON 30,29 That was a really cold airmass here...it was in the 20's and I believe the teens in some interior locations. The snow pack was a big factor there. Stormlover74
The odd part is it could have been one of the earliest freezes on record and instead will probably be one of the latest....clearly not a good indicator on what the winter will be like... Yeah, that would have been the first October freeze according to Uncle's list since 1988. 1988-89..Oct..31st.....Mar.....22nd
Alpha5
As I posted earlier, I think UHI has corrupted KNYC's climate data to the point where its no longer feasible to compare data from now to say 80-100 years ago

donsutherland1
From the early part of the record, especially pre-1950 data, UHI has played an important role. However, the trend toward later first freezes and earlier last freezes has continued even in recent years where the UHI contribution has not changed much (the City and its surrounding suburbs have not changed appreciably). 1990s: Median first freeze: November 17 Mean first freeze: November 19 December first freezes: 1 Median last freeze: April 2 Mean last freeze: March 31 April last freezes: 5 2000s: Median first freeze: November 19 Mean first freeze: November 23 December first freezes: 3 Median last freeze: March 29 Mean last freeze: March 29 April last freezes:

Sundog
NYC won't hit freezing until after the fropa next week. Thursday night or Friday night. I am not too concerned with reaching arbitrary temperatures on any given date, especially since the park has reached 33 twice already and JFK already hit freezing. Jefflaw77
If NYC doesn't hit freezing during this upcoming "cold" air outbreak- when is the next date that seems reasonable.. NYC's latest freeze date is 12/22/98, correct? Is it possible that we break that record this year?
Stormlover74
As of now it should be Sunday the 11th, where the forecast low is upper 20s. But if not it could be the 15th or later with the next cool down. If NYC doesn't hit freezing during this upcoming "cold" air outbreak- when is the next date that seems reasonable..
