june 24 2010

boxing day storm dec 26-27

october rainstorm

Im gonna have to agree with you on this.

That june 24th storm was the most intense storm i've ever witnessed/experienced in person.. The damage was unreal. I still think those winds were above the 76mph recorded. And the hail, there's still roofers in the area racking up the cash for 3 day roof jobs.

But nothing beats out snowstorms

1. Boxing Day Blizzard

2. March Nor'easter (incredible wind, greatest since Ernesto's remnants in 2006)

3. February 9-10 (greatest snow in one storm from winter of 2009-2010)

4. Record setting heat from April to July (July being the epitome of true summer heat)

5. Late February retrograde storm (never seen anything like it, gives us snow, gave parts of NE rain.

1.) Feb. 9-10 snowstorm (13.5'': best snowstorm of winter 09-10 IMBY)

2.) March 13 nor'easter (incredible rain/flooding and wind)

3.) July heatwave (100+ for four days in a row)

4.) Boxing Day snowstorm (9 inches with places not far to my east getting 20-30''+)

5.) September 16 severe wx/tornado event (very intense storms at RU that caused some pretty impressive tree damage, with Queens getting a tornado and unprecedented macroburst)

1) Boxing Day Blizzard

2) March Nor'easter

3) Queens Tornado

4) February 9/10 snowstorm

5) The retro-snowacane in late February, but this might be revised.

Since I don't really like this name (since there is no Boxing Day in this coountry), I am happy to point out that this most recent Boxing Day was observed in the UK on Tuesday December 28 (where it is a bank holiday). Or since the Euros dropped the ball on this blizzard you could stick with the Canadians who stood on tradition on the 26th. But we probably need a better name. Perhaps since this verified a blizzard over a wider area than most of our "blizzards" (as opposed to Europe where just about any fall of snow is considered a blizzard), we could just stick with a basic name like Blizzard of December 2010.

1)Retrosnowicane -- 17" of snow and just the rarity of its setup (Blizzard NYC, rain in NH)

2)Unending heat -- I missed it so much

3)9/30-10/1 rainstorm -- 4.00" of rain to shatter the drought

4)2/10 snowstorm -- First big snow event in 4 years

5)12/1 superfront -- Temps plummet 30 degrees in an hour

And top 3 least favorite:

1)2/5-6 storm -- 28" in PHL, 0.2" here

2)12/26-27 storm -- 30" 75 miles to my east, 2" here

3)6/24 severe outbreak -- Big storms in PHL, showers here

This year was just out of control for me. Snowiest winter EVER. Hottest summer EVER. Back to back 2ft+ snow storms, in the same week. Insane.. Then near blizz conditions later that month. Then, as if a switch were flipped by God himself, we abruptly went from winter to summer. Look at these temps from PHL:

3/1/10: 48/35

3/2/10: 45/34

3/3/10: 42/35

3/4/10: 47/34

3/5/10: 50/34

3/6/10: 53/29

3/7/10: 59/31

3/8/10: 60/36

3/9/10: 63/36

3/10/10: 63/36

3/11/10: 60/42

3/12/10: 47/42

3/13/10: 51/42

3/14/10: 50/43

3/15/10: 46/41

3/16/10: 62/41

3/17/10: 66/37

3/18/10: 69/39

3/19/10: 71/40

3/20/10: 74/44

3/21/10: 75/45

3/22/10: 62/52

3/23/10: 53/45

3/24/10: 64/46

3/25/10: 70/42

3/26/10: 56/36

3/27/10: 48/31

3/28/10: 59/32

3/29/10: 57/52

3/30/10: 52/38

3/31/10: 65/42

4/1/10: 72/46

4/2/10: 74/44

4/3/10: 71/46

4/4/10: 76/49

4/5/10: 80/50

4/6/10: 87/57

4/7/10: 89/62

4/8/10: 84/60

Then the summer with unbelievably relentless heat, summer basically replacing fall, and then again the dramatic switch to winter at the beginning of Dec without looking back. Quite a strange strange year weather-wise.
