sauss06
Nope...the law is the community boards have to be notified 45 days before closure (thanks to another ex asshat mayor who closed a company by sending them out on a false alarm on Superbowl sunday, only to return to quarters to find their firehouse chained shut!)..and the closures were supposed to happen Feb1st or 8th. So either they delayed it because they knew the outcry it would cause....or they found another loophole (if its rolling blackouts, maybe the community boards dont have to be notified? Wouldnt surprise me). So their trying to reduce your Engine from 5 to 4 fireman and do 20 station closures as well? WTF???! does your contract have minimun staffing? Also, did they ever open up their EOC? If so, what did they do? I would think NYC would have a plan for almost every disaster, man made or natural
eyewall
If the union story has any truth to it somebody will be in a a great deal of trouble to be sure with 3 deaths due to EMS crews not being able to reach the victims. I heard of one case where a woman had to spend 16 hours in her apartment with her dead father's body before any helped.

Plenty more stories will come out if the sanitation BS is true....if not...expect most of these horror stories to dissapear. (Although the "damage" is already done. Bloomberg got his deflection). I'm on my phone now so its a pain in the ass to cut n paste....but ill give you a rundown of some ridiculous stuff once I'm on my computer. uncle W
I remember after the Dec. 1960 storm (which was a Sunday/Monday even) my block wasn't plowed until Wednesday...My block was plowed as soon as the snow stopped falling in Feb. 1961...February 78 took a day to plow...January 1996 was plowed very fast..It wasn't a main street....I've been living on Staten Island since 1997...My street is a major road and bus route...It was plowed about 25 times already...My son's truck was stuck on an unplowed block until Yesterday morning... wx.1028
i live near a major street also, and i must have heard the plows at least 10 times clearing the same road over and over again. seems to me they are just racking up overtime pay and accomplishing nothing. Ababa
Ive heard stories from multiple people that there road has been plowed in excess of 7-10 times since the snow stopped falling. Makes the post story more believable
Sock Puppet
Holy **** tonight is terrible. Streets are now ice death traps and I've been sliding every second. Sitting in traffic now on local roads with an ambulance's sirens blaring unable to move. Forget plows, they have failed to salt most streets
Sock Puppet
I live on one of the largest roads in Brooklyn and I can attest to the fact that it has been plowed 2in excess of 20 times after the storm ended Ive heard stories from multiple people that there road has been plowed in excess of 7-10 times since the snow stopped falling. I KNEW it had to be something! I mean, when NYC had that super band over them that one storm and they broke the all time record for snow in the city, the streets were clear that night and it was fine. This explains it all. Doesn't it always come down to cash?? Money talks, BS walks.

Dark Energy
If you think this was the only reason....I got a bridge for sale for you. please, do tell. It sounded easy enuf, but i dont live in the city. I feel awful for the people that do. I'm so glad i only got 6 inches of snow and it wasnt bad here. what is the real deal over there?? I never liked bloomberg. is he the problem? also, of course, i assume they wanted OT pay too. they do that here as well. there will be no snow on the road and they will still plow it. No snow emergency. No MTA action plan for storms put into affect. Completely out of touch mayor. 911 system abuse....etc etc....if this story is true (again...it probably is, but 1. Doesn't mean EVERY plow operator was part of it. And 2. Shouldn't negate other mistakes that were made)...the timing is still very suspect...its bloombergs M.O. Analog96
the 2006 storm was bs itself. That 26 inches is crap I don't doubt the measurement. But the difference in 2006 was that it warmed up very quickly after the storm, and the snow was basically gone in 3 days.

Analog96
total snowdepth of 17 i believe? yea the 26 was bogus Well I had 21 and 3 hours later like 16. That snow was melting as it was falling.
rgwp96
Well I had 21 and 3 hours later like 16. That snow was melting as it was falling. no it wasnt, that storm was cold. snow was powder. it compacted quick because it was like lake effect . I had 16 and the impact on the roads was like that of a 6-8 inch storm. and that wasnt because of melting.

Sock Puppet
2006 was very high ratios which compacted very quickly. I KNEW it had to be something! Doesn't it always come down to cash?? Money talks, BS walks. Snow depth is accurate but it compacted so quickly that when the snow stopped it was down to like 15" total snowdepth of 17 i believe? yea the 26 was bogus Wasn't due to melting Well I had 21 and 3 hours later like 16. And then even that compacted like crazy afterwards. Couple that with like 60 degrees two days later and a mid February sun (yes it does play a role for those of you that think it's BS) and bam - it's all gone. I actually remember Northern Blvd by my house being EASILY drivable the same afternoon of the storm. Weird snow. But it came down unbelievably hard that morning - probably the heaviest snow I ever saw (along with 96.)
