Quite the nasty couplet over Sunset Hills, heading towards downtown STL. I'm a bit worried that the blanket 50-county TOR for the whole line doesn't effectively convey the danger of an individual circulation like this -- I would think specificity should be employed wherever possible (but at this point, what can they do... issue a TOR within a TOR?).

At least SPC does have tornado watches out for several states but I feel like the probabilities could have been a little higher. At least a good solid tornado watch or possibly a PDS. I am also a little surprised that they didnt higher the tornado probs. It kind reminds me somewhat of January 7, 2008. Everyhting was overperforming that day.

I think this is overpreforming, the spc could make mention of this a latter time when max heating occurs. And what about the fact that storms are way ahead of the cold front, could we see a third round??

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 2167

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

1244 PM CST FRI DEC 31 2010

AREAS AFFECTED...SWRN THROUGH CNTRL LA

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE

VALID 311844Z - 312045Z

TRENDS ARE BEING MONITORED FOR THUNDERSTORM INTENSIFICATION ACROSS

SWRN THROUGH CNTRL LA. IF STORMS BEGIN TO SHOW SIGNS OF BECOMING

BETTER ORGANIZED...A WW ISSUANCE WILL BE NEEDED.

EARLY THIS AFTERNOON SCATTERED CONVECTION INCLUDING ISOLATED STORMS

HAS DEVELOPED OVER SWRN LA ALONG WHAT APPEARS TO BE A GRAVITY WAVE

THAT IS PROPAGATING SEWD THROUGH THE LOWER MS VALLEY. ATMOSPHERE

REMAINS MODERATELY UNSTABLE WITH 1000-1500 J/KG MLCAPE. BASED ON THE

18Z RAOB FROM SHREVEPORT AND LAKE CHARLES...COOLING AND MOISTENING

HAS OCCURRED IN THE 850-700 MB LAYER INDICATING THE CAP HAS

WEAKENED. THIS ALONG WITH MODEST BOUNDARY LAYER WARMING AND NWD

ADVECTION OF HIGHER THETA-E AIR SUGGEST STORMS COULD INTENSIFY

FURTHER WITH TIME. LARGE HODOGRAPHS ALONG THE LLJ AXIS SUPPORT

POTENTIAL FOR SUPERCELLS WITH ISOLATED TORNADOES AND LARGE HAIL THE

MAIN THREATS.

EXPECTED TO CONTINUE NEWD THIS AFTERNOON ALONG AND S OF WARM FRONT

RETREATING NWD THROUGH AREA. THOUGH AMBIENT AIR MASS IS ONLY
