BucksCO_PA
El Nino, La Nina, Santa Maria, no matter the DEC snow hits just keep coming. In the face of overwhelming warming signals & shortening of the winter season one real positive sign has emerged this century & that’s the return of DEC snow. For 30yrs through the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s snowfall totals fell off dramatically to a point in which the monthly mean over that time period fell below 2”. Everything seemed to change with the millennium storm & we’ve now been on a real nice 11yr run with a monthly mean of 6.5”. The current 12.7” monthly figure ranks as the 7th snowiest DEC on record with 3 of top 10 snowiest DEC's occurring since 2000. Philly DEC snow trends by decade, recorded more snow during the 2000 decade than the entire 1970-1999 period. Finally the 12.4" storm total is now the 24th 12"(+) storm at Philly, 7 of those storms have been recorded during the past 9 seasons so Philly weenies enjoy the moment as we have gone 16yrs (1942-57) without recording one of those historic storms. Animal
Thank you for taking the time to provide the updated stats. It has been a good run recently for the PHL area. February 2010 may be the golden snow shovel award for decades moving forward for PHL,.

phlwx
Yesterday's 1.9" snowfall provided Philadelphia its snowiest 3 year stretch on record (117.4"), breaking the 78-80 run of 116.0". Philadelphia now needs 6.9" before the end of the season to make last year/this year the snowiest duo in history (knocking 08-09 out of the equation). Some great stats in this thread and this one was really surprising to me. It would be fascinating to know what the previous 48 year interval was like (1886-1934)... JCT777
Updated - move into the seasonal top 10 Thanks for starting this thread and adding some excellent information over the past two months. It would be cool to have one more 3"+ snow event in the Philly area in March. That would put this season ahead of 2002-03, which I'm sure seemed beyond crazy at the start of this winter season.
