Upstate NY/North Country Winter Thread II

the clipper next weekend looks intresting :pimp:

As of now especially for areas along and north of I90...see pboth possible lighter QP south of the Thruway and maybe even some mixing potential there too.

I'm finding these storm tracks this winter almost personally insulting! I really had a feeling this one was going to be "ours."

Any hope for February?

From a climo perspective, while it is possible to happen, January often doesn't produce BIG snowstorms across the Upstate of NY. I think Feb & Mar will be good to us.

The potential storm next Tues. (Feb 1) is looking to be significantly further west than the ones of late, so much so that we have to be concerned it doesn't become a lakes cutter....

i wouldnt worry about it too much

way too far out in the range

the pattern does support a cutter, but its supported a cutter for a few weeks now.

until it happens....

you do want snow right?

i know youd rather have the cold though

Like you, snow depth is important to me. However, mean temperature is as well as I want to see if we can (or are starting to) break the pattern of warmer Januaries and Februaries in this region of North America. Is the warmer trend unstoppable? Are we starting to trend colder with January 2009 being the start and last year just being a blip, or will we continue to see warmer means? It is possible to get a lot of snow and extreme cold in the same month. February 1993 is a prime example.

That's interesting given the coldest day ever recorded in the NE US/Ontario/Quebec was February 9th, 1934.

What I want is a cold snowstorm. The type of storm that gives us 8-10" with temps in the single digets. :weight_lift:

OL, this to me is the ideal winter month (along with February 1993): January 1917. 100 cm of snow (!) with a mean of -12.6C!
