ArtRosen
I haven't gone out to measure... winds are too extreme. Never seen winds like this before in a blizzard. When was the last TRUE blizzard that hit NYC/LI? '96?

weatherweather
So sick how long some parts of Jersey have been sitting in between the deform bands over PA and SW NJ and the deform bands over NE NJ. Would not want to be there right now.

Ok, now I have a question-- how is liquid measured in a snowstorm with wind like this? Is the liquid amt measured independently of the snowfall measurement (that is, a different sample) and is the liquid measurement completely automated? Amped
I'm in a lighter band, but it's still snowing just as hard. Think we're transforming from FGEN mand to Norlun toff. The 1947 storm did this and it occured on the same day coincidently. I also think some of the snow from NE NJ will blow off the ground into NYC. earthlight
Mega band part 5 trying to push into Western Union Co...this is getting silly now. Holy crap. earthlight
We're losing some mid level support and fast, though..so hopefully we can get that in here. We still need a few more inches to catch 32" in '96 here.

weatherweather
crazy. Monmouth/Ocean/Middlesex/NENJ has pretty much been in the dark greens the past 12 hours. Yea I know Toms River has basically been sittin in deform bands almost as long as some parts of NE NJ, and the snow reports from there match that. I think they have a shot at 30" also

famartin
if they didnt measure often, how much snow you think blew off the top layer that may lower the overall snow totals? It really shouldn't have any affect since procedure is to let it build up on the board for 6 hours, then clear it. Assuming they followed standard procedure, their measurements were proper. Now the SITING of their measurements is possibly another story altogether, but Alex and Tony Gigi know much more about that than I.
cold&cloudy
Stuck between those two bands, but still snowing here in Sussex County. Looks like its dry in parts of Hunterdon.
A-L-E-X
Something is up with either the liquid equivalent or snowfall at Central Park. Islip has seen a 14:1 ratio so far, and they are much closer to the warmer air at the surface and aloft. JFK had a 16:1 ratio, and LGA a 13.6 to 1 ratio. .RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM LIQUID EQUIVALENT SET AT ISLIP NY... A RECORD RAINFALL OF 0.81 INCHES WAS SET AT ISLIP NY YESTERDAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 0.79 SET IN 2009. ...RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM SNOWFALL SET AT ISLIP NY... A RECORD SNOWFALL OF 11.3 INCHES WAS SET AT ISLIP NY YESTERDAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 1 SET IN 2004. Do you know how liquid equivalents are measured in storms like this? Is it indendent of the manual snowfall measurement? Is it automated?
