I'd give up half my tornadoes for what you have got out of this

you are going to come close to the 96 storm total I think. how long ago did you have 20"? like under 2 hours right?

About 2 hrs ago..I'm going to go out and measure in a bit. It's def. surpassed Feb 2006 which was a 26.7 incher..but I think we're going to come up just short of 96. It's going to be close. Amazing that we are approaching 30 inches!

I just read someones post on fb, he stated that he lives in Edison,Nj, "im in that band in westifled about 10 miles north and its the most intense band weve been in and we have about 32 inches arleady", he also mentioned that he would not be surprised if he hits 40" :/

Yeah, I'll confirm that. I wouldn't confirm 32 inches..but it's def. in the upper 20's here.

This is unbelievable

heavy banding is continuing over the area with 1-2" hr snow rates in northern nj (for atleast another 2 hrs imo)

adding on to the already excessive amounts, only making things worse

my car is completey buried

Time for another chapter to be written in the KU book by Mr. Kocin

Earthlight, thats exactly what it looks like here. I just went for a walk with my sister for like 30 minutes. So cold but so worth it. Couldnt even walk in the middle of the street in some places. Snow up to my waist. Some cars are literally buried, you can't see them at all. It let up for about 30 minutes as well but its coming down strong again. Have to be over 2 feet and pushing towards 30. I need other people on Staten Island or close by to verify this for me, but it can't be too far off from that here.

How accurate are these liquid equivalent numbers coming out of KNYC? They're reporting over 1.5", so you'd think any total below 15" should be laughed at.

What site do you get liquid equivalents from? By Upton's own admission, they were going with 11:1 ratios.

Here in North Edison, maybe 5 miles by crow to westfield, we have 18-22 i'd say. No where near that. Possibe he has that, but most likely a drift.

For missing out on the worst of the storm, I'm still very content with the foot or so we're expecting here in NW New Jersey. This whole month has been cold and we had nothing to show for it...until now.

Is anyone else impressed with the temperatures? Its in the teens, which while not unheard of during storms, is still impressive considering the lowest temps are usually in the mid 20s or so.

They had a massive discrepancy for one of the events last year, reporting like 6 to 1 ratio

Yeah that was one of those events where they admitted the measurements might have been off.

There was a large outcry on here because NYC had three events neatly measured to an exact inch (no decimal) and one of them (Feb 10) they had a figure of 10.0 inches in the middle of the storm, and it snowed moderate to heavy another 3 hours after that and the total never went up. Big discrepancy with EWR on that storm, too.

I think your just going to be it but we'll see!

still can't believe this is happening when the models had it all off the coast, but didn't pay too much attention to it with snow events here lately.

In the last 2 years they've gotten someone there who does measure to none round half or inch numbers but he or she is not always there for a storm...you know when they are.

Well, as I talked to Earthlight yesterday about the discounted qpf bomb on the gfs the last few runs....it seems to us that it picked up on the banding but because of its res and that its a spectral model, it just showed a big blob of qpf. overall, it had the right idea!

I have family in Westfield, and they are estimating between 22 and 24 inches. It's hard to get an accurate measurement with all the blowing and drifting.

Here in northeast ocean county, right along the coast, I am probably around two feet. Drifts all over the place exceeding 3, even 4 feet in areas. It continues to snow heavily, as well as blow and drift.

Love this storm! :snowman:
