A-L-E-X
~13.5" here, but it's a very tough measure. So it looks like we have a consensus of about 14 inches lol. Did JFK up their totals yet? I just measured 14.9, you have 13.5 and JM has 14-15.
famartin
wow? thats it?? i have one protected area that i measure from and it looks like it has around a foot.. several areas with 2-4' drifts By protected area, would you mean an area where snow can blow off of neighboring buildings? A-L-E-X
Someone wanted to know the total at TTN in the previous thread. I'm near the airport and have 9.1". The city probably has more, and the eastern suburbs yet more... this side of town got shafted. Is it still snowing there?
jm1220
We're in a really nice band right now It's hard to tell between the falling and blowing snow, but I'd guess we're mod-heavy right now just with the falling snow.
Thundersnow12
would love to find out the total so far at BLM, they have been getting pounded like crazy.
earthlight
Still snowing at a 1-2"/hr rate. Getting 1996 (32") is going to be tough..but we're gonna give it a run for it's money.
earthlight
I can't believe we are still in this type of banding.
winterwx21
the past 10 years have been the golden age for big snowstorms in our area. 10" to 20" snowstorms have become almost common. it's crazy. 19" here as of 12:30am Gotta enjoy it while we can. You know we'll flip to a different pattern sooner or later, and have years with very few big storms. This period has been incredible. I will go out to measure shortly. I think we probably have around 20 inches here. Nice being one of the jackpot areas for a change.
Thundersnow12
There is literally a heaven on earth. I have found it. We have surpassed Feb 06 total here. Unbelievable...Blizzard of 1996 is the only one up higher on the totem pole. Here are some pics from a walk at about 11:30 I'd give up half my tornadoes for what you have got out of this you are going to come close to the 96 storm total I think. how long ago did you have 20"? like under 2 hours right? isnice
And here I am, thinking that my trip up to Boston this weekend would not only permit me to see my family but also to witness a great snowstorm. Well, I've measured 6.5" so far and really crappy stuff coming down now. Where is my house? BASKING RIDGE, NJ.
jm1220
So it looks like we have a consensus of about 14 inches lol. Did JFK up their totals yet? I just measured 14.9, you have 13.5 and JM has 14-15. It's hard to imagine that a lot of totals aren't inflated because of the drifting and blowing from roofs. I tried to find a very rough average and subtracted an inch or two because of the roof blowoffs. We'll probably end the night with 18" and maybe 20" if one of these last minute bands nails us for a while. Overall an extraordinary and memorable storm here. I suspect the axis of heaviest snow at the end will roughly resemble 2/25/10's but of course plenty more to our south into VA. SNE looks like they largely got shafted by the mid level dryslot. Ajdos
I just read someones post on fb, he stated that he lives in Edison,Nj, "im in that band in westifled about 10 miles north and its the most intense band weve been in and we have about 32 inches arleady", he also mentioned that he would not be surprised if he hits 40" :/
A-L-E-X
11 would be legit since LGA/JFK both have 11....they may come in with more than that, we'll know on the climo report in 15-20 minutes or so or the next PNS, whichever is first..they technically probably had 14-15 if I had to guess 11 would be a bit of a discrepancy from 20 lol. Hey, can you find the precip totals for all 3 airports so we can compare them to NYC to see how inaccurate the airports are for measuring snow on top of a roof? Theyve admitted to having problems with this before, so I think it likely that in a storm as tough as this, history would repeat itself.

Jefflaw77
I still can't believe i haven't seen anything more than 1" an hour snowfall rates w/ this storm so far... monmouthcounty11
We have someone on this board from Edison. I wonder how much he measured? EDISON 20.1 1117 PM 12/26 From the NWS this is from 2 hours ago, so figure maybe 3-4 inches at most, likely ~24 inches is a good bet for that area, 32 is far-fetched. masomenos
How accurate are these liquid equivalent numbers coming out of KNYC? They're reporting over 1.5", so you'd think any total below 15" should be laughed at.
