A-L-E-X
I have a drift almost to the base of my side window.I am going to start digging a path from my front door out to the street so I can start taking some pictures of this winter wonderland outside. The snow just tapered off here and the sun is starting to appear. BW how much snow did you have? Trying to develop a consensus here lol.

A-L-E-X
We had 18" last night we had at least 6 inches since then so I'd say about 24-25 inches final total for southwestern Brooklyn. I live on a main street 65st it's barely passable usually streets ate plowed down to blacktop here. “Lives are on the line“, a Hatzolah Coordinator “During the past few hours our response time to serious emergencies has been delayed dramatically due to vehicles stuck all throughout the streets. In Boro Park alone we have numerous ambulances stuck in the snow as well, and we are operating with a skeleton fleet of ambulances - this is real Pikuach Nefesh! Don’t think that your vehicle will b able to be driven – because it won’t!” 4 foot drifts blocking streets. Boro park is right next to my area. Wow! The area between Staten Island and southern Brooklyn must have gotten into that megaband that NJ was in on-- that also argues for higher snowfall totals for NYC (same longitude.) A-L-E-X
this is the biggest storm I can remember and I'm older than dirt...I had to let my dog out and I had to go out and dig him a path...There must be at least 2 feet with four-five foot drifts... Northern Queens and Nassau are getting obliterated right now with that last band w/specks of yellow on radar and headed straight at me. Conditions now are pretty much as bad as they have been all day. It has to be snowing 2-3" per hour and the wind is insane. I can barely see across my street!! It's as if it's still snowing heavily. Significant wind creating ground blizzard conditions. I live for this. Seriously. Some great times last night ! Unc, do you think this was bigger than Feb 1961? JM make sure you get a final snowfall total lol. We should make a map and have everyone's total listed
Jefflaw77
Apparently, I live in a snowhole... It shows snow on the radar- but nothing is happening here.. in Dix Hills.. At the end of the day this storm for MY BACKYARD will be remembered for it's duration and wind.. My snow totals were just average at best.. Generally I am measuring around 12-13" outside.. However, on the area where I shoveled several times - when you add up all the increments, it's about i guess 14-15"... At the end of the day- i can't complain.. I came in last night at 11pm and had shoveled about 10" in certain area of my driveway- since 11pm last night we got about 4" as measured in this shoveled area.. Point being- since 11pm last night, i never got into one of those crazy bands.. It just didn't materialize here in western Suffolk.. That's the one issue i have, not the amount of snow but the intensity- I never saw more than perhaps 1" an hour snow rates.. Jeff
Isotherm
Holy moly. 25" total here in Colts Neck, Monmouth County. Could barely walk. Drifts over 4 feet. Had to yell for someone inside as the wind closed/locked the garage door on me. Stranded in my own backyard, what a feeling. I've officially beat the DEC 09 event, FEB 06, JAN 05, DEC 03, and yes even PD II's 24". Couldn't touch 96 but it sure as heck looks close. :snowman: x 5000

Two feet up to Staten Island and southern Brooklyn Alex, you're talking about w/ 96 right, not this storm. BTW -- re your post about the double KU event. Could you even imagine if we had 2 consecutive historic winters? This one storm has basically brought me to my average, and I only expect 25-32" total this winter. So honestly any more snow is a bonus this year.
A-L-E-X
Liquid equivalents 1.23 to 17.7 at Newark 0.64 to 10.4 at JFK 0.75 to 10.2 at LGA 1.09 to 12.0 at NYC 0.81 to 11.3 at Islip and this from JConsor Something is up with either the liquid equivalent or snowfall at Central Park. Islip has seen a 14:1 ratio so far, and they are much closer to the warmer air at the surface and aloft. JFK had a 16:1 ratio, and LGA a 13.6 to 1 ratio. .RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM LIQUID EQUIVALENT SET AT ISLIP NY... A RECORD RAINFALL OF 0.81 INCHES WAS SET AT ISLIP NY YESTERDAY. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 0.79 SET IN 2009. ...RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM SNOWFALL SET AT ISLIP NY... A RECORD SNOWFALL OF 11.3 INCHES WAS SET AT ISLIP NY YESTERDAY. That 1916-17 winter analog seems to be working for us and the funny thing was, that was also a set of 2 consecutive historic winters, except in reverse-- both with 50 plus inches of snow! No Iso, those were totals measured in this storm-- I cant remember who reported the 31" but it was at like 8 am, and Unc and another guy (from SW Brooklyn) reported 24-25 inches this morning..... some of that should have made it to NYC, since its the same longitude. Atlas
Kind of a disappointing storm here in NE Philly compared to areas just to the south and east, but still a fun storm to enjoy, especially since 48 hours out we thought we were getting zip. There was a band that setup 5 miles to my west around midnight which would have boosted my snow totals. I do like some signs showing up in the long term though. Grats to all you guys. Euripides
Being that the LIRR is shut down completely in both directions, this storm really reminds me of Jan 1996. Does anyone remember how long the LIRR was shut down for that storm? Im thinking 3 days, but Im not sure. The LIRR was out of service Monday, Tuesday and the AM Rush hour on Wednesday. Limited service came back during Wednesday afternoon. Thursday and Friday were no bargain with canceled trains causing delays and crowded cars. Ah memories......
