Once the radar filled in over the City, all hell as broken loose. Extremely intense winds with Moderate Snow. Could add on another 4-5" when all is said and done, but not as impressive as John's totals. LOL

There was 1-2 hours of slightly lighter snow but its back to original intensity. Amazing.

In Monroe, NY (Orange County) getting absolutely crushed for the past couple of hours now. Winds starting to pick up more. My Audi A4 has literally disappeared in the driveway.

Closing in on 2 ft easily! This is awesome!

But this part of the lower Hudson Valley always seems to do really well. No complaints here.

Norlun Troff. It may add another 6"-10" . I saw this movie last year. And don't be fooled by the dry slots, It is still snowing hard.

really I am smack in the middle of NJ and there has been light snow to almost flurries at times for 3 hrs now..this has been a frustrating storm for me as the county right next to me has double the amount of snow..

Liquid equivalents

1.23 to 17.7 at Newark

0.64 to 10.4 at JFK

0.75 to 10.2 at LGA

1.09 to 12.0 at NYC

0.81 to 11.3 at Islip

ISP has to be wrong. Lousy ratios here and we didn't even have sleet like ISP reported for a couple of hours (although I'll admit I am skeptical about those sleet reports).

We are now finally getting heavy snow here after light to moderate for the entire storm. We've had numerous momentary whiteouts due to the winds, but finally there is steady low viz; I'd say about an eighth now.

Hazardous weather condition(s):

Overnight: Snow and widespread blowing snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 20. Windy, with a north wind around 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 15 to 21 inches possible.

Woah. these totals keep going up. this is a BIBLICAL event for ME...... and most folks from a 25 miles swatch from AC up the GSP towards the TPZ bridge.

Some interesting things happened with this storm. 1) Western fringe was displaced eastward 2) Axis of heaviest snow was displaced westward. I wonder if the storm's track had anything to do this; with two opposite things happening, I would think the storm's rapid intensification was the cause of this moreso than the track.

Hey Alex: just measured 14.8"...I'm assuming you're at ~16", since you had 14.9" over an hour ago?

have 20 inches in Butler(northeast morris cnty) , maybe a little more but getting tough to measure thats for sure.

That seems a bit high, but perhaps you were just far enough east to pick up even heavier amounts than areas to the west. Might be double the snow in a relatively short distance (10-20 miles).

Winds are really picking up now.

I sat almost on top of that western fringe for the entire event. It was as if it hit a brick wall along I-81. A rough estimate of 4" fell here so far, but I'll bet not more than 10 miles west of me hardly got anything.

You should have been in Albany for the Blizzard of '96.

I continually get amazed at how Monroe ALWAYS seems to cash in/jackpot regardless of how east/west south/north the tracks of these storms take...I have plenty of family up there and that area never fails. :snowman:

That's what I measured around 1:15 AM. I've probably had a little more since then, maybe an inch, but not too far off. My backyard averaged 18" and my front yard averaged 22", so I split the difference and called it 20". It's very tough to get an even remotely scientific measurement. It's weird to think I've gotten so much, because it seemed like 15" or so would be the max possible amount here. The total in the morning might end up closer to 23 or 24.

Winds have been kind of touch and go here, but I did have a gust to 36 a short while ago - so there have been some strong gusts. I think the low tracking a bit further east (compared to the coast-hugging model runs from Saturday) kept the really strong winds to LI and points east, though a lot of stations in NJ still managed to get around '96 wind levels. EWR had some impressive sustained/gust values earlier. As the low pulls away and the flow turns more NW, we might see some more gales in NJ and lots of blowing snow.

yeah i kinda agree... i was actually surprised to see they have 11.8" at 1am although i'm not really that far off, maybe 2-3 inches?? i'll go out again in an hour or so and yes, SN/+SN right now... i'm really hoping we could squeeze maybe 1-3" before all is said and done...
