HoarfrostHubb
One of my favorite things to do ...after a storm and after I've shovelled out..just look out the window and admire and stae at the snowbanks and piles..I know I'm not alone here..not by a long shot I love a good 90 degree angle of 2' high banks cut just so... I get pissed when the plow goes by after... but it does mean I can get back out there! This was a challenging one to snowblow due to the wind. Once I was past my walkway it was pretty easy, but back near the garage I had to time it with the winds and crank the chute around with it. Organizing Low
It's supposed to be windy through Wednesday i am at my parents house in ottawa and we are sustained NW 25 gusting over 40 since last night.......EXCEPT not a single flake has fallen, we have bright sunshine all day and it is horrifically cold outside as far as misses go, it doesnt get more miserable or worse than this. HoarfrostHubb
This was not the best storm to snowblow, as mentioned, but at least there is a decent snowpack for now... should survive the moderate temps at the end of the week
weathafella
Jerry, did this remind you an event out of Jan-Feb 1994....it had that appeal to me because outside of the immediate shore and se MA, it was a fairly forgettable 1' event....there were a couple like that during that season. The big difference Ray was a big wound up low that produced wind but snow distribution, yes. And funny the long range seems to imply a 1993-94 esque pattern type. I still maintain that was my favorite winter since I moved here back from the west coast 20 years ago and you illustrated why..lol...

CoastalWx
I'm with Kevin too. I look out my window, and there is a bout a 20' wide path..if that on my street. The snow here was a "wetter" dry snow. It looks very impressive compared to the fluffy snow. Huge piles everywhere. The drifts out back our amazing. Literally 3-4' with the one pic topped out a 6'. Heavy heavy landscape damage. Its's all crushed and buried. I wish I could upload the pics, but they must be too big or something. Most impressive snow I've seen since Jan '05. Def easy 18" out there. Maybe even 20.

weatherwiz
Well, we had a family of 10, but a few were too young to help in 1978. But for that storm it took us 3 or 4 days to make it possible to get our cars out of the driveway. I still am not sure how this storm was so bandy. What causes them? And why was the snow so fine? Winds shredding them? I heard/saw no thundersnow either. Anyone find gravity waves in this? Gee, I ask a lot of questions... WOW...that's insane it took that long to shovel out. I guess in a way I have no right to complain As far as the storm being so bandy it was just so intense...this was like a cat 1 hurricane basically...and as you know tropical systems are like that. They just get so intense and so round up that away from the main precip area it's just nothing but bands after bands. Then there was just things that didn't work out well for us which a few pointed out (Ekster, Ryan, Will, Scott).

If you have the Microsoft open your pics in "windows picture viewer" and under picture at the top open resize and cut them down to around 1500 pixels or just use the percentage option and maybe knock em' down to 60%. That's the easiest tooll I know for resizing. Just save copies of your originals.
wxsniss
I think to myself...what the heck did people do before snowblowers? But then from what I've heard it used to be the entire family outside shoveling. One of my brother's works until about 5:00 and my other brother went to help his girlfriends mom with the driveway or something b/c she couldn't get out but he told me to leave him something to do...I just may leave the long sidewalk from him...but I'll probably just help b/c that will probably take a couple of hours for one person to do...maybe a little less. This wind is really pissing me off. any snowblower recommendations? gas vs. electric? brand? sorry for the OT in these waning hours of the storm if you haven't seen it already, check out this really well-done time-lapse from northern NJ: http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-533804?ref=email

NEK_VT_Upslope_Event
This storm is still cranking in the White Mountains due to upslope and the cold air banking up. Bretton Woods has had 34 inches and will likely be near 40 inches before it is over. Some places in the Presidential and Twin Mountain area could get 4 feet. Just incredible up there. Even though I only got 12 here, still an epic storm to watch unfold. Yes. 31" at Cannon. There is probably over 5' of snow on the ground in some places up here! I think Will had posted some Nina winter totals and the years that had good snow in Dec. often went on to great things. The years with little or no snow not so much. At least that's my recollection. Hopefully this puts the Winter of 10-11" in good company. Enjoy the snow, it's just about the best thing in life.

40/70 Benchmark
BTW, I have admitted countless times that I am prone to overreacting, however folks who were accusing me and a few others of doing that last night were ultimately wrong this time. I started to really bi**** when it became painfully obvious that this event was going to produce the bare minimum relative to expectations across the vast majority of the region (in some cases, less) and I was ultimately correct. As often I as admit that I jumped the gun, this time I did not.
