weathafella
People just want to hear the good news and it's starting to evolve into hype. Everyone sees the issues now but when it was still a debate the "dont worry its coming regardless" shouts win. I bought into it for one post when I told ray 15-30 before retracting, the NAM/MM5 signal was just too strong. I got critcized for the red flags once we knew the storm was coming, not a word about the fact I said HPC was wrong for disregarding the hits. A couple/one want to paint it as always being negative, when everyone was hugging the Euro that gave Boston 0" I said there was nothing wrong with the two hit models. But how can we go against the EC Ensembles which were over the benchmark? LOL I think a few people ripped me for that too, but they were wrong and it was clear even 6 hours in the impact was way overstated to the HPC models. That gets forgotten in favor of mentioning a dry slot that anyone not suffering from an eye condition could see on the water vapor. I had a lot of things wrong with this storm at different times but I'm convinced the hype is starting to hurt forecasts. Tip was largely right, a few areas got nailed but this was a "shredded bummer." Not a criticism of NOAA at all but when we look back at 3-5 state Blizzard warnings for many this isn't going to be remembered as the great blizzard. Nice snowstorm sure! For others like those SW of Boston with trees all messed up, it's the worst storm since 78 I disagree. All of NJ, areas in NC, VA, and many areas in coastal CT/RI/MA/NH/ME got hammered. Some of the usual jackpot areas got shadowed but the impact on the shear number of people makes this one of the major storms of the past 10 years. It's kind of like if I downgrade the blizzard of '66 because NYC/BOS mixed at the height while all areas inland and west of NYC (including DC/BWI) got buried. CoastalWx
Those shrubs will be fine, I have 59 Arborvitaes and they are really resilient, I have had them layed right over with ice and they always come back up, Mine are between 7-8'..... The good pic of them crushed could not be uploaded unfortunately. It was pretty funny. I agree they should spring back, but I hope there wasn't any branches ripped off. I know it sounds silly, but when you live in the city...you tend to value the landscaping..lol.
Clinch Leatherwood
Lots of "I's" in that post First observation since the storm began that you got right! Filling in nicely over EMA, I'm thinking the area SW of Boston and south of Boston in EMA was the jackpot FTW in SNE.

bobbutts
Did this verify as a blizzard for the SNE or NNE stations that were in the blizz warnings? I didn't see the official report, but no way for CON

For us here in Ayer and most out through FIT and middle interior Massachusetts this storm was pedestrian, however. There have been big daddy bombs in the past that did not do that. Anyway, this will be a top 10 storm for areas of NJ - NYC, and down the coast, maybe a couple of lolly-pops S/SW of BOS, but otherwise, not out of the ordinary for winter in SNE. 8" so far in Ayer. One last shredded band to go and then we enjoy a moderation trend?

I reiterate - I bet we'd be lucky to find one storm in history that dumped 12" + on ORF, NYC, PHL and BOS. It was a freak of nature that didn't quite deliver the universal precip shield we all love ('93, '96, '03) nor a IMBY special that let us pound our chests ('78,'97,'05). But it would be in the next KU edition, no doubt.

Kbosch
I think I'm done with about 16 for a storm total. That plus a definite 60MPH gust down at BDR makes this one of the best ever here. I would have preferred it without the wind, but it made things interesting.

Clinch Leatherwood
Great dendrites now Big flakes going sideways...neat! Usually the big guys float down. Walkway, driveway finally 100% snowcovered Messenger, do you know peeps in Foxboro? My brother does some plowing there and lives there and I grew up there. One town east and still a ton of friends in the area. Snow zone for SNE. They're getting rocked there again right now. The areas has changed a lot in the last 25 years but the snow keeps coming. HIPPYVALLEY
Been dumping here for the past 30-40 minutes. Easily picked up another 1". dan11295
From just checking the Boston news stations they had a rough night in Scituate. 100 foot section of seawall collapsed on Oceanside Avenue had 2 houses burn down on another street, Fair amount of trees/wires down as well from what they are saying. Typhoon Tip
The combo of snow and wind was something I have never seen. On their own each was incredible, but together, wow...truly rare. Yea, I went out for some hot and sour soup from Chinese ...more just to be a dork and drive around in it and needing an excuse to do so - haha - and was pretty amazed that even here at an elevation of 190 feet, which qualifies as a valley, this was a horizontal storm. We never really S+ed here in Ayer, but the wind made a moderate snow 1/4 vis on many occasions. I don't believe I verified a blizzard here locally. hammerz_nailz
Yeah but towns like Mansfield, Willington, Vernon always come in with more than you too. Organizing Low
i think Tip made a good call he warned that snow totals wouldnt be as high as some (ie myself) thought in much of new england.......though totals between 8-20 inches it seems are nothing to sneeze at. having said that, this was a powerhouse storm that will be remebered for the incredible strong winds for all, and locally heavy snow, and most certainly in nj/ny area. up here we have sunny skies and winds gusting to 30-35mph and a miserable windchill, i hope this storm moves out thank you very much.
