SC48
Not PWM. Vis never under half a mile. I think Boston itself missed it. It had 35, 32, 32 MPH for 3 hours. Fell just shy of being a true blizzard grade.
codfishsnowman
Easthampton MA was in the Bust Zone! What little snow we got blew away & left the grass showing. City plow guys said they could find 3 INCH to 5 INCH drifts I live in Springfield..we had a touch more but its pretty brutal here too...something tells me this might be our only real big shot for the season too
weathafella
Did this verify as a blizzard for the SNE or NNE stations that were in the blizz warnings? BOS had verification late last night early AM I believe. 3 hours of 1/4 or less and wind gusts 35? They may have achieved that 4-6 hours worth. powderfreak
What a disaster at my crib. 4-6' drift covering my back parking area and my nice evergreen shrubs crushed. I hope they come back. The pics of drifts look like whipped cream. Ahh the steep price of a KU... crushed shrubs I'm waiting to see that in the next public statement. Clinch Leatherwood
you were throwing up some very valid red flags leading up to the event for many. Some people give you hell... especially on the main board but I always appreciate your opinions cause you state them and back them up regardless of whether they're popular or not. People just want to hear the good news and it's starting to evolve into hype. Everyone sees the issues now but when it was still a debate the "dont worry its coming regardless" shouts win. I bought into it for one post when I told ray 15-30 before retracting, the NAM/MM5 signal was just too strong. I got critcized for the red flags once we knew the storm was coming, not a word about the fact I said HPC was wrong for disregarding the hits. A couple/one want to paint it as always being negative, when everyone was hugging the Euro that gave Boston 0" I said there was nothing wrong with the two hit models. But how can we go against the EC Ensembles which were over the benchmark? LOL I think a few people ripped me for that too, but they were wrong and it was clear even 6 hours in the impact was way overstated to the HPC models. That gets forgotten in favor of mentioning a dry slot that anyone not suffering from an eye condition could see on the water vapor. I had a lot of things wrong with this storm at different times but I'm convinced the hype is starting to hurt forecasts. Tip was largely right, a few areas got nailed but this was a "shredded bummer." Not a criticism of NOAA at all but when we look back at 3-5 state Blizzard warnings for many this isn't going to be remembered as the great blizzard. Nice snowstorm sure! For others like those SW of Boston with trees all messed up, it's the worst storm since

Clinch Leatherwood
Where are you guys hearing this? The damage in the area I spoke of is lifelong friends that have been there since the early 70s. It's even exceeded 97 in that area but I think that's a lot of winds too. Pine trees FTL. OSUmetstud
Is it sustained or gusts? Sustained...yep. frequent gusts of 35 mph or over is the criterion along with 1/4 mile visibility or less for three hours. ...so they should have made it. dryslot
Heavy heavy drifts and heavy heavy shrub crush. Those shrubs will be fine, I have 59 Arborvitaes and they are really resilient, I have had them layed right over with ice and they always come back up, Mine are between 7-8'..... powderfreak
It looks like someone dropped a car on them. That photo was pretty sweet... you shouldn't touch that drift, just let it sit. You'll have snow in that corner of your yard till May.

City plow guys said they could find 3 INCH to 5 INCH drifts Same in Northampton. I'd guess the actual total was about 4" or something, but I'm seeing grass poking through also, and didn't have to clean off my car this morning. Living here I've learned to adjust my expectations though. It's like I was from the coastal carolinas or something! No complaints. It was a lovely night. And more importantly, a good base-builder for ski country.
