What do you think made this storm such a screw-job for CT and parts of Mass? Was it the subsidence on the east side of the NJ/NYC mega-band, drier air to the northwest, or what?

I think it was missing out on the mega frontogenesis northwest of us that really boosted snow west and we were never to get into a good band of lift through the column. If you look at the IR you can see we're just generating a lot of low level junk.

It sounds as if many people were expecting a MECS/HECS and just got a moderate snowfall. I know Matt Crepon in Watertown, CT also said he'd been fringed with this storm. I've had a respectable 12" in Westchester County with some very high winds, but this was more of a NJ storm for the most part.

Here on the northwest fringe....

I had 3 inches at 2 AM. More now, but I'm on the laptop in bed in my PJ's so further measurements must wait till dawn. :)

Snowing moderately and blowing and drifting a lot. Occasionally we get a heavy burst.

I would guess ALB has 6"+ now and probably pushing 12" in parts of the county east of ALB - Rensselaer

6.5" here in West Hartford. Epic, epic, epic.

Just didn't pan out. I was worried for a lot of C/E Mass last night and everyone laughed at me... but I just didn't like what I was seeing.

Sometimes localized mesoscale effects can save the day and other times they can reall F you.

I assume the 30"+ in parts of NJ and Central Park possibly pushing 18" by the time it ends makes this a MECS anyway.

The band is about to really set up like earlier.. you can see it coming ashore now and on wv... more heavy snows to come hereee

It's not a solid move.....it's "pulsing" up, just as it pulsed down; it's emitting spokes off to the west that will ultimately dry up, but each one takes progessively longer to do so, thus the end result is a deliberate edge west.

The inverse of the way it eroded earlier.
