Vis now under a block. I don't know my measurement but I'm guestimating now about 13-14 inches....and adding rapidly. Bring it!

And folks, La Nina La Shimina, this will go down as a KU. Get a storm that gets NYC/BOS 1-2 feet...it's a KU.

13-14 probably here also.. was afraid to say it! had about 12 at 1130.. Didnt think anyone would believe me lol.

Based on what?

"Have been sick" is subjective - I agree. But, plenty of systems gone by the wayside did this. This storm just isn't coming together 'that way'. I'm at 5.5" and thinking maybe 3 more.. HOLY SHIST, 8" of snow!

No, wind is impressive, but this is a weird deal.

It sucks for your back yard...but this system is an absolute bomb and areas down there will get 20"+....and some areas near BOS are going to come in with big totals too. We have hurricane force winds on the Cape/Islands....this is definitely not a "run of the mill noreaster"....I'm sorry John, but I disagree with you. You used to say that you shouldn't let the IMBY results skew your view on the system as a whole....well this is a good example...it sucks for Ayer, MA (so far)....but its been a total bomb and crushing other areas.

Yeah this going to be a pretty major storm for BOS metro. I still think even out here we put up decent numbers, but you will get better I think. People are extremely quick to knee jerk their emotions because of the radar in the middle of the storm that models actually handled fairly well.

Has nothing to do with that Will. I understand Tip's sentiment.

It's one of the deepest storms we've seen in years, it's 70 miles off Long Island and about 1/3 of MA and about 1/2 of CT had zero precip falling for a considerable time over the last few hours.

When we all look ahead 2-3 days and see a 965mb low, see the euro dumping epic totals at times 2+, see other models doing the same and what we get is a 30 mile wide mega band for all the marbles, that blows.

Sbos it's not mood swings, it's human nature. You act like you'd be pleased if that snow band vanished and dumped 3 feet on Ray in the next two hours. There's a natural dissapointment. Also dont forget post xmas blues which is a natural human reaction too.

NJ was the recipient of one of the most impressive shows of mesoscale banding I have ever seen. When you take a look at the 00z UA chart, it makes sense. Intense banding is almost always on the W/NW side of the 700 low and/or backbent warm front. It's where it's supposed to be. It so happens that much of SNE is now east of that feature and basically in the inflow air to the band. When that happens, you don't have much forcing for heavy precip...and it generally follows more of an ebb and flow pattern of intensity as drier air and weaker forcing floats on through.

The NAM had that back bent warm front feature pivoting right over their head today. When I saw that, I said here we go. Pretty impressive stuff...I was always fascinated with the physics of heavy snow banding.

like I said, this is definitely not run of the mill. I've seen obs in my old stomping grounds that rival those in the biggest storms ever.

I am going to put my two sense into this and not because I am in Melrose getting slammed with over 10 inches on the ground....BUT please this is not a "bust" and it should be a disappointment. New York city, Long Island, New Jersey, even towards Albany, Boston Metro, central NH, the coast of Maine, most of vermont are getting moderate to heavy snow right now...look at the radar. This is a HUGE area that is impacted. Just because there is a dry slot in central CT and central MA doesn't mean we should all be crying on here. Come on the storm is heading to sub 970mb, gusts over hurricane force in SE MA and the Cape..seriously.

No matter what, the disappointment and the ball busting fact is that were going to see two feet only 20mi to his se while he sees a foot.. i dont blame him

Thank you....you have no idea how much I appreciate that.

This is Dec 2003 and PDII all over again for me and it blows; I would have rathered a whiff.

Messenger, there's a natural negatively that has seemed to grow on this board (going back to eastern) as a whole...every storm is "its not the best case scenario anymore"....that type of attitude is a total turn off to me. I understand people want to jackpot, but they cannot realistically expect it like they do. At least I know I don't and after a billion let downs, I would hope other people would know that too.

The fact of the matter is, this storm was forecasted to nearly whiff us (maybe a glancing blow) a few days ago and most of the area will get a big snow out of it. OK, some might only get 7" while others get 20"....but its the natural negatively of always wanting the jackpot that often brings the quality of these threads down.

These are good points, Will. I agree overall, but,... the point is purely that the biggies in the data set didn't do this - they all performed!

This will not ...well  might not

In the middle of it right now. Picked up 6" in 2 hours - Not kidding. Photo in the obs thread.

Awesome! Just got back into the western edge of the band here in the Hudson Valley just south of Albany... fookin' ripping snow right now. Hopefully this will slowly continue to edge westward a couple miles and sit, haha. I'm going to be amazed if we do as well or better than parts of ORH county given the overall set-up.

At this point it looks like you might.
