mattmfm
Yeah that band S of BOS is def CF enhancement....look how slow its moving (or lack there of) compared to other bands Also notice how the more spotty bands SE of the cf enhancement form a much nice swatch of precip once they hit it. Definitely enhanced precip here.
snowman21
OKX updated snow forecasts to an additional 15-21 inches tonight for parts of the NY metro area. I don't think I've ever seen that much in a single forecast period before outside of the western mountains.

dendrite
Yeah, should've said IP. But it's ripping them and dendrites too, just went out. Hope to see thunder if not now, tomorrow AM. Actually snow pellets fall under the code GS (along with graupel and soft hail). Unlike sleet they're opaque. I had a period of them with thunder in March 93. Kbosch
Whoaaaaaa in Stratford, the wind and snow is beyond words. I went outside to measure and got swept up in something I have never seen before. Total whiteout. The way these incredible winds are pushing the snow...there are not enough superlatives. I wouldn't want to walk down the street right now for fear of getting lost. The only bad part is that there is no way I can measure this. Don't yell at me, Wiz, it's just impossible right now. Some spots yield 3-4 while some give 8-9. I'm guessing it's in the middle, 5.5 or 6. We'll see how the storm goes but that was probably the best snowstorm moment of my 25 years. HarveyLeonardFan
9" NEW TODAY. Had 3" in the hour between 500 and 600pm . Sleet now at 27F with North Wind. I'm about 17 miles south of you in Newport and it's moderate rain. About 4 inches earlier before the melting, although all of Aquidneck Island has far more and your total in the middle of the Bay sounds good. I can't believe people are still driving in this. I see people zipping down the street at the speed limit as if it were a sunny day. Kind of nuts. It's slippery out there with temps in the low-20s. cheetah440
I'm liking the radar wrt to my location the next few hours. American e-mailed me...flight canceled.....now will try to get out Wednesday...much easier. pretty crazy tracking flights still landing at Logan. I remember landing in a storm in Dec 2007 that still scares the crap out of me.
Baroclinic Zone
Yeah, I 'd like to see that collapse SE a bit. Sounds like sleet out there right now. Sitting at 33-34F. Winds made a noticeable jump in the last 1/2 hour. Seems to be waivering back and forth between snow and pellets.

Typhoon Tip
Apparently because of convection and not a warm layer. No - warm layer is involved in the convection
ctsnowstorm628
we had sleet for about five or ten minutes then went to mod snow right after you posted this we trended back toward snow and now have mod snow and 24.4 degrees. how much you got over there? 40/70 Benchmark
I'm right in the the the thick of it. Have been for over an hour. Probably like 2" per hour with a lot of wind. That was the slot I outlined earlier....Attleboro-Quincy-KBEV-Newburyport. Starting to sweat a Dec 2003\PD screwgie from that.
NB-Weather
Coming close to 6 inches now, few drifts over 2 feet already. I have to say, this storm is unique.. probably one of strongest storms i've witnessed here in past few years. Rather amusing storm as well. Nothing better then watching cars try to get up a giant hill.

Kind of nuts. It's slippery out there with temps in the low-20s. They're insane. I'm on a dead end and thankfully have not seen any cars in quite some time...but even though I'm 100 feet from the road there's a chance I may have missed one. free_man
Barely anything happening here since the onset, TBH. Very happy for everyone, though. Hopefully that band on the S Shore of MA sticks there for 24 hours.

phishn
Believe it is, we were sitting at 23 most of the day here in Randolph since precip started but have risen to 28.9 now in the last 1.5 hrs. Nervously watching and hoping the rising trend stops if we can get a bit stronger ageostrophic northerly component. I'm in the southern end of that band right now and its ripping here. Seems like that may be coastal front enhancement, it doesn't make much progress compared to the other bands and general motion. My temperature has gone up from 24.0 at 7 PM to 25.0 at 7:35 PM. Ed Lizard
Since y'all probably don't have work tomorrow, anyone takng a video camera to Gloucester or Scituate, where the NWS is predicting 3.4 foot storm surge with 20 foot waves? Is the local media playing up the coastal aspects of this? Coastal Flood Warning Oh, from Summers with my now late Grandma in North Quincy, MA, is Dick Albert still on the TV? nutmegfriar
we trended back toward snow and now have mod snow and 24.4 degrees. how much you got over there? Guestimate is between three and four. We got off to a huge start and picked up nearly three inches before the lull. Been moderate to heavy for quite some time now. Wind is wild, wild, wild at times.
