Collegestudent11
Very Strong Band on the New Jersey Shoreline. It would be a 2 inch per hour band.
winterwarlock
Well I live in Somerset County and we have been having Moderate to Heavy Snow for the past 2 hrs so if it is not bad here hate to see what other places look like..LOL... BTW we have somewhere between 3 and 4 inches here so I think we will do alright since he haven't even gotten into the worst of the storm yet.. where in Somerset County because I just measured and dont have 3, im in the western southern part of the county. Radar really has shown the bands to the east never quite making it and I would catagorize our snow as moderate. You will know heavy snow when you get it
Dosh
sad that were losing light as we enter the heaviest bands. Amazing storm so far.

Stormlover74
Wasn't it similar to this in the wee hours of 2/26/10? This is without a doubt one of the best storms in recent memory. Visibility is near zero, it is pouring snow, winds are howling.
Saloo Kaloo
You cant see anything outside. This is going to be ending up my top 5 fav snowstorms of all time.
WeatherFox
This is without a doubt one of the best storms in recent memory. Visibility is near zero, it is pouring snow, winds are howling. and one for the record books. 26.9 inches is the amount to beat for the all time NYC Central Park record. It could happen if one of those meso-scale bands sets up and trains. NWS AFD..AS NOTED EARLIER...WIND WILL BE A LIMITING FACTOR ON WHAT WOULD OTHERWISE HAVE BEEN EXCELLENT SNOW RATIOS OF 15-1 OR 20-1 GIVEN INTENSE LIFT AT IDEAL SNOW GROWTH TEMPERATURES ALOFT...WITH ROEBBER NEURAL NET ALGORITHM SUGGESTING GREATER LIKELIHOOD OF RATIOS UNDER 10-1...SO USED CLIMATOLOGICAL 11-1 RATIO INSTEAD AND SCALED DOWN WHERE TEMPS RISE ABOVE FREEZING. ag3
This is without a doubt one of the best storms in recent memory. Visibility is near zero, it is pouring snow, winds are howling. Agree. These Bands look wicked. We got some heavy bands forming and engulfing all of us. This might be one for the record books.

Chris L
Agree. These Bands look wicked. We got some heavy bands forming and engulfing all of us. This might be one for the record books. I haven't seen these type of bands since February 2006 and we all know what that did... Right now, this storm is better than Feb 10th, although that storm had significant damage due to heavy wet snow; this has FAR better ratios. Kingwill
sad that were losing light as we enter the heaviest bands. Amazing storm so far. True,,but that is when the Snow will REALLY accumulate..

LVblizzard
New Mt. Holly map. Those heavy bands have to make it west pretty quick if the western Lehigh Valley wants to see 7+".

WeatherFox
Agree. These Bands look wicked. We got some heavy bands forming and engulfing all of us. This might be one for the record books. this might stop it from happening as per the NWS but subjectively I think we are in the game: ...AS NOTED EARLIER...WIND WILL BE A LIMITING FACTOR ON WHAT WOULD OTHERWISE HAVE BEEN EXCELLENT SNOW RATIOS OF 15-1 OR 20-1 GIVEN INTENSE LIFT AT IDEAL SNOW GROWTH TEMPERATURES ALOFT...WITH ROEBBER NEURAL NET ALGORITHM SUGGESTING GREATER LIKELIHOOD OF RATIOS UNDER 10-1...SO USED CLIMATOLOGICAL 11-1 RATIO INSTEAD AND SCALED DOWN WHERE TEMPS RISE ABOVE FREEZING. WeatherFox
Yes, some dry slotting but it is expected to come back as the storm's moisture shield continues to pivot from the southeast to northwest.. Looks like the east end of LI is getting into a break.
Jmister
I think the new Mount Holly map is still a few inches too high across the PHL metro area. The gradient should be sharper like it is in north Jersey. A decent band is making its way west though, so that will enhance rates a good bit if it makes it. _AR_
000 FXUS61 KPHI 262122 AFDPHI AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOUNT HOLLY NJ 422 PM EST SUN DEC 26 2010 .SYNOPSIS... -- Changed Discussion --LOW PRESSURE OFF THE MID-ATLANTIC COAST WILL CONTINUE TO INTENSIFY AS IT MOVES NORTHEAST TO A POSITION OFF THE NEW ENGLAND COAST ON MONDAY. HIGH PRESSURE IS THEN EXPECTED TO BUILD ACROSS THE REGION AND DOMINATE THE WEATHER PATTERN FOR MOST OF THE WEEK. A COLD FRONT MAY CROSS THE AREA LATE IN THE UPCOMING WEEKEND.-- End Changed Discussion -- && .NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM MONDAY MORNING/... -- Changed Discussion --SNOW NOW COVERS THE ENTIRE CWA. BANDS OF HEAVY SNOW SPIRALING OUT FROM THE CENTER OF THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM ARE PRODUCING SNOW AT RATES OF ONE TO TWO INCHES PER HOUR...AND REDUCING VISIBILITIES TO ONE QUARTER MILE. SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS...HEAVY AT TIMES...BEFORE TAPERING OFF TO LIGHTER SNOW DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS AND ENDING ALL TOGETHER MONDAY MORNING. WINDS WILL VEER TO THE NORTHWEST FROM SOUTH TO NORTH DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS...WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH POSSIBLE ALONG THE COAST AND UP TO 40 MPH FURTHER INLAND. BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL OCCUR EVERYWHERE...BUT THESE CONDITIONS WILL BE WORST NEAR THE COAST WHERE THE STRONGER WINDS AND HEAVIER SNOW RATES WILL BE LOCATED. THEREFORE A BLIZZARD WARNING HAS BEEN CONTINUED FOR THE NORTHERN NEW JERSEY COAST...AND A WINTER STORM WARNING HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO A BLIZZARD WARNING FOR THE SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY AND DELAWARE COASTS. COLD TEMPERATURES WILL COMBINE WITH THESE STRONG WINDS TO CREATE WIND CHILL VALUES IN THE SINGLE DIGITS IN MANY PLACES (SOME NEGATIVE WIND CHILL VALUES ARE POSSIBLE IN THE SOUTHERN POCONOS AND NORTHWEST NEW JERSEY). WHILE THESE VALUES ARE NOT LOW ENOUGH FOR A WIND CHILL ADVISORY...IT WILL NEVER-THE-LESS FEEL VERY COLD AND WINTRY WHEN COMBINED WITH THE SNOW. USED A BLEND OF MAV/MET TEMPERATURES FOR THE GRIDDED DATABASE..-- End Changed Discussion -- &&
