Amazing back building of deformation bands now into Northeast NJ. This is absolutely insane.

Do U think Somerset County Bordering Union and Middlesex county who have been getting Rocked will see another big time band ? I got a taste for a couple hrs and want more as It has been A Lot lighter the past hr or so..

Entire LIRR - is SHUT DOWN... Seriously looking at the intellicast radar...(i know - not the best radar) but nothing has changed for HOURS... this storm appears to be crawling..

This storm will most likely go down as NYC/NNJ/CNJ's most severe blizzard... Unbelievable.... HISTORY in the making!!

In some spots yes..There were plenty of People including Myself who saw 30 Inches of Snow from Blizzard of 96..I live in Central NJ(Somerset County) who saw 30 from that one while right now I am right around 12 inches and will be probably lucky to get 3 or 4 more inches unless some heavier stuff moves in again..

My first chance to post today. It started here in hunterdon co. NJ around 11am. Windy all day. Just measured but Im sure the wind took off a lot off the top cause i only have 4 inches of snow. The super band stayed to my east all day. John and Greg killed it on this one.

We've been in a zone of subsidence here in Folsom for about two hours now, but with the high winds a ground blizzard is underway. A new band of heavy snow is moving in now. Obviously you all know the conditions, but for the sake of it... DO NOT GO OUT ON THE ROADS. I even just had difficulty with by 4X4 vehicle.

i just drove home from a Bar Mitzvah and had to go back out to pick up wto friends who got starnded because the LIRR cancelled all trains (you think they coul dhave done that like 5 hours ago? morons)...All I can say is...HOLY ****E!!!

The gradient in this case is a lot sharper. While someone might get the jackpot, the high amounts in '96 were obviously more widespread.

Guest Patrick

I have a 6' fence around my backyard. drifts up to about 4 feet along the fence, and the lowest point in the yard is 23"..... Now, it is possible that my entire yard is a snowbowl, but still... 23" is the lowest I measured.

Don't get me wrong, they are still gusting. It may be picking up again as I type this. How much snow do you have? Here on the cliffs it is too treacherous for me to attempt to go out and measure

WOW...OKX radar now showing 85 kt at 2500 ft over eastern Long Island Sound and the north fork of Long Island, with gravity wave like banding features evident on radar. Would not surprise me if hurricane force gusts were occurring there.

Bill, that is simply amazing.

I think the NAM was trying to forecast that band and thought it would set up over NYC or western LI. Was off by a few miles.

I wanted that band, dammit.

Northern and eastern NJ are always favored to get a band like that set up during a coastal storm that has its frontogenic/deformation forcing extend to them. The terrain is very favorable and sets up convergence there which creates the megaband. Here we usually collect the table scraps as it pivots back east.

Inbound on the train to NYC from DC, left at 10pm and almost at Wilmington. At least 3-4" on ground here but conditions are beginning to deteriorate noticeably, anticipating SN shortly. Can't wait to see what's going on during the ride through Jersey, I'll be verifying all your totals on the run ;)

There was no way I was going to miss this when it became apparent how historic it'll be! Hopefully I'll catch the last third or so in NY :)
