Absolutely nuts as far as deformation goes. The frontogenic forcing is going through the roof right now. Absolutely unreal display of dynamics. Areas in NE NJ/NYC/Western LI are going to see thundersnow and blizzard conditions for the next few hours. It's only a matter of time before there's thunder in this band.

Yeah wouldn't be shocked. We actually have some TSSN rptd by KTAN area.

I think I hear sleet pounding my windows but Im not sure-- the visibility is close to zero outside and the wind is blowing so hard I dont know if its snow pounding my windows really hard.

Usually in sleet, visibility goes up-- right now visibility is about as close to 0 as it ever gets.

There were definitely snow grains and pellets/rimed flakes here too. I'm not having it anymore so I have to believe it was just temporary.

Is it the wind this time around?

Let it be known that mid level lows and defomation/frontogenesis are king. You should all build statues for them.

It's the wind and the snow rates..I have never seen anything like it.

The deformation/frontogenesis is through the roof right now and it's going to rot over the same areas for the next few hours.

Yep,that's exactly what I am experiencing here right now. That band really means business!!!

So thats not sleet here then either-- it's pounding my windows so hard, I couldnt tell, except the visibility is 0 so I dont think its sleet-- I think its really fine snow + 60 mph winds lol.

Dude..this is an all time type storm. There's some semblance of a coastal front developing. The conditions here are absolutely the worse since Feb 06 and are rivaling that easily.

For me...:(

For you...

Glad all of you New Jersey/NYC folks are enjoying this epic storm. While it's a bit of a bummer back here, and I wish I could share in the heavy snow and wind, I'm happy for you all. :)

Snow pellets not ice pellets-- I figured it was the snow being projected onto my windows with the force of the high winds lol.

I was implying a NYC Metro sub-board and a PHL Metro sub-board. Shouldn't have used thread.

We might do that at some point...it depends on how busy the separated subforums would be. Ours is already the smallest by geography on the board, although I suspect we carry a disproportionate number of members here too.

Dont forget us in eastern c-nj too.

I'm in Jersey, and its nice, but not sure about epic... we should make 8", but a foot looks difficult at this time. I hope I'm wrong...

Guest Patrick

Looking at the Regional Radar, looks like the center has really slowed in the last hour... can anyone confirm this, or more experienced dude or dudette comment?

Here comes a big deformation band into Richmond County and pivoting west towards Hudson/Union/Bergen/Manhattan...wow.

In Westbury and was just outside and almost zero visibility but noticed snow pellets. Is this sleet or some formation of snow? See it bouncing off my car. This is one hell of a band.
