NorEaster27
NYC will almost certainly be in the 50's over the New Year's holiday. GFS shows a pretty strong temp inversion which doesn't warm us up as much as one would think given the 850s.
Isotherm
I'm literally watching the temp drop a tenth every 5 seconds here. Was 37.4 at 430 and I'm down to 27.3 already. Deep snow pack can do wonders w/ radiational cooling.

Yes, this is one case where you really need to look carefully at 2m temps because of the onshore flow and the deep snowpack. I could see NYC staying in the upper 40s with the suburbs in the mid 40s. Temperatures should drop quickly behind the front with rain showers changing to flurries/-SN.
Sock Puppet
Lol how's he gonna have the streets plowed if there are still numerous plows stuck and the streets are now ice so plows wont help anymore? Im glad the media really put Bloomberg's feet to the fire. And the MTA commissioner also. Did you know they said theyre going through with a fare hike tomorrow? This guy is a THIEF he steals our money and uses it to fatten his wallet (numerous media exposes have caught him red handed) -- NYC is going back to the days when Boss Tweed ruled. This is why the MTA needs to be dissolved. Bloomberg said he will have the roads plowed by tomorrow-- he was getting very defensive lol. It wasnt just the fact that some of the roads werent plowed-- according to residents (and media witnessed this) NONE of the roads in Brooklyn, Queens or Staten Island started getting plowed until TODAY ! Oh, did you hear about the 911 Operator who told the pregnant mother her going into labor wasnt important enough for them to respond to? Her baby was still born Three deaths in NYC so far because of EMS failure.
Sock Puppet
Brooklyn Council member David Greenfield rips into Bloomberg and BTW notice the bike lane he is talking about which I mentioned yesterday here. This is the road I live on (few blocks from where he's speaking)
mahk_webstah
You guys should loop this RUC analysis of the system while it's still available. Just awesome to see how the phase unfolded. http://www.meteo.psu...NL/rucloop.html It is like the big bad northern stream dropped down and gobbled up that tight little ss shortwave! Pacman! ict1523
My street as of noon today remained unplowed. I was able to somehow make my way out with my car though.
Absolute Humidity
Looks like rad cooling and deep snow pack is driving temps way down. Got 9.1 to 15.5 spread in western Monmouth. Roads are slick, saw accident rt. 9 south off rt 33 off ramp.

nzucker
24.1/21...temperature has been bouncing around for a while and was down to 23F earlier, weird. The developed suburbs in Westchester just radiate horribly, it's really amazing the difference you feel on a clear night when you drive 10-15 miles to the north. patrick05
we're now down to 19F... and yes, temps bounced here for a while as well (based on KISP obs)... from 27F to 24F back to 27F then to 20F and finally 19F...
