uncle W
We go thru this with bogus reports ever winter. The person who reports from Great Kills on Staten Island always has inflated totals... must be a plow operator. The NWS even removed his reports last winter. I measured 20 in. and a trained spotter here had similar totals. Its possible someone had a total up to 25 in but not 30. hello Don...Didn't you have 19 or 20" for the 96 blizzard?...20 sounds correct for our area...I estimated 24...It is impossible to measure...I have at least 2' in the back yard but that is roof inflated... patrick05
took a final measurement and got an average of around 12.5"... KISP reported 13.7" at 700am so i wasn't really too far off... at least i passed the one foot mark... shoveled the driveway and it was really really tiring... you do have to be crazy to wish for snow amounts like this lol our street haven't even been plowed yet... we got almost double the snowfall 12/19 last year but at least one plow truck drove by unlike this year... maybe it really IS bad in some areas... Hi unc.... I think I had 25 in. in 96. My yard here is surrounded by woods on three sides and it must provide a wind break of some kind because no matter the winds drifting is not a problem for me like it is for others. jm1220
I have to think the high totals in Nassau County, such as the 23.5" in N Massapequa are inflated somewhat because of all the blowing snow from roofs. The heaviest echos in the county for the longest time seemed to stretch from around here up along the Queens border, and I estimated 20" this morning. 15-21" seems like an overall good estimate for totals in Nassau. Sock Puppet
Yup. They didn't clean one of the busiest streets in Brooklyn (Ocean Parkway) until 10 AM. BL03
Yea the clean up isn't good at all except for maybe the highways. A lot of the plows are getting stuck and the abandoned cars all over aren't helping matters.
jm1220
This is a friend of mine's FB status: "Long Beach, NY - Even though I removed snow from blocking my front door through the night as best I could, I woke up to 3-4 foot snow drifts blocking every exit from my home. About a half hour ago I lowered the sliding window on my front storm door, I literally hung out the window, & flailed my arms, shouting to anyone passing by. A neighbor was using his snow blower but couldn't hear me shouting. He finally saw me hanging out the door with my arms all over the place, I had to pass my snow shovel out the opened window, & he dug out a space in front of my door! Holy Cow!" My car, which is parked out on my street, is still completely buried. It took nearly 3 hours for my brother and I to dig the drive way and a path down the sidewalk out. My backyard literally has 3-4.5 feet of snow in it.
JBG
Got a measley 14 inches out there. What a waste of a good storm! What does the 384 hour GFS say? That anyone would complain about 14" shows how spoiled we are. After all we went from February 11-12, 1983 all the way to January 6, 1996 without 14" in KNYC. Without even a one footer lol. Actually we went from December 1948 to March 1960 without a 14" storm; then again to January 1978 with only the Mayor Lindsay storm (even that barely). We seem to have many periods with a relative drought of intense snowstorms. Then we get relative feasts such as January 6-7, 1996 followed by PD II in 2003 followed by February 11, 2006, then February 25-26, 2010 and now the Boxing Day Blizzard, all over 20". Al Gore be damned.

Bloomberg played it off like he was doing a good job too this guy is such a buffoon. On sanford ave and parsons there are 3 buses stuck. What a mess. Flushing is a disaster. Iam amazed that I haven't seen one plow. I live close to Francis Lewis Blvd and even that still had a good amount of snow on it with only one lane open; two cars would not be able to drive side by side. You'd most likely get voicemail And btw I just saw snowplows for the fourth time today on the same street that's already plowed while every other street is still full of snow. They're basically plowing up the road I suppose Dude I saw plows by Willets Point Blvd go up and down maybe 3 times. Meanwhile like you said ALL the streets leading to Willets were completely impassible. Thanks for nothing. Hey, at least I got my power back a couple hours ago. At least Con Edison is out doing something. It did take them 18 hours though and in the winter with that wind out there it got cold in the house REAL FAST.
