About 10" or so here in East Setauket is my best guess right now...so tough to try and get an accurate total as you know...

Wind gust of 62MPH recorded by me! Just waiting for that 74MPH one, I can feel it! :)

Wrote one more full update for those following my site, if you would like to see what I'm going with, well, here you go:

It's been a fun day watching this forum, will be up for awhile then it's time to sleep a bit!

Hope everyone has fun watching this overnight!

There is a very low chance (5%) of a wind gust to hurricane force over Long Island tonight.

This may say it all, a historic storm in progress, and none of the local networks as far as I can tell are interrupting programming, as I speculated might be the case yesterday.

The most I saw was ABC's one hour coverage.

Up to ~6.0" as of 5:45 pm - 2" in the last hour - pouring snow right now - some of the heaviest snow I've ever seen. About to go to the pub for grub and more snow watching....

Holy CSI banding Batman! Spent the last 4 hours in the pub, then shoveled, then took measurements as of 9:15 pm (not bothering with the snowboard this storm - just too much wind and haven't been around enough) all over the backyard (it's relatively quiescent) and got an average of about 13-14"; the low and high are about 10" and 16", whereas in the unprotected front yard, some areas are only a few inches and I have some drifts of almost 3 feet. It's a freakin' blizzard out there (or at least close to it), with snow falling at 2"/hour the last 3-4 hours, winds sustained around 20-25 mph and gusts to at least 30-35 mph; visibility is maybe 1/8 of a mile (220 yards). One of the most beautiful snowfalls I've ever seen and looks like the bands are pivoting right over NE NJ/NYC, including my area, so we might hit 20-24" at this rate, especially considering the latest AFD from OKX, below. Most I've ever seen is Jan 96, with about 28" in my backyard - would be cool to threaten that.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...

-- Changed Discussion --A 976 MB LOW ABOUT 150 NM SE OF LONG ISLAND...WILL CONTINUE TO

INTENSIFY AS IT TRACKS NORTHEAST TOWARDS NANTUCKET OVERNIGHT.

MESOSCALE HEAVY SNOW BANDS OF AROUND 1 INCH PER HOUR CONTINUE TO

WORK NW FROM THE OCEAN...MERGING INTO A FAIRLY BROAD AND NEARLY

STATIONARY SNOW BAND ACROSS SW CONN/NYC/LOWER HUDSON

VALLEY/NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY AND WESTERN LI. SNOWFALL RATES OF 2 TO

4 INCHES PER HOUR CAN BE EXPECTED IN THIS BAND. THE BAND IS ONLY

EXPECTED TO SLOWLY PULL NE THROUGH THE NEXT 3 TO 5

HOURS...INCREASING CONFIDENCE IN 15-20 INCHES AND LOCAL AMOUNTS UP

TO 2 FT WILL FALL ACROSS THIS REGION. ISOLATED RUMBLES OF THUNDER

ALSO EXPECTED TO CONTINUE WITH BANDING.

COASTAL FRONT LOOKS TO HOLD BETWEEN MONTAUK POINT AND BLOCK

ISLAND...WITH MAINLY SNOW NOW EXPECTED ACROSS FAR EASTERN PORTIONS

OF THE REGION THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE EVENT...JUST SOME SLEET

MIXING IN ACROSS TWIN FORKS. 10 TO 16 INCHES OUTSIDE OF THIS

STATIONARY BAND ACROSS EASTERN LI AND CT.

THE DEEP LOW WILL ALSO CONTINUE TO PRODUCE POTENTIALLY DAMAGING

WINDS THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT...WITH GUSTS OF 50 TO 60 MPH EXPECTED

THROUGH AROUND 06-08Z...HIGHEST NEAR THE COAST AND IN THE HIGHER

INTERIOR ELEVATIONS. WINDS EXPECTED TO GRADUALLY SUBSIDE LATE

TONIGHT.

ZERO VISIBILITY EXPECTED IN HEAVIEST BANDS AND STRONG WINDS...WITH

TRAVEL NOT RECOMMENDED UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY OVERNIGHT.

HEAVIEST SNOW BAND IS EXPECTED TO PULL NE BETWEEN 04Z TO 08Z FROM

SW TO NE AS INTENSE LOW PRESSURE TRACK SE OF NANTUCKET.

Numerous cars stuck on 9th ave and 42nd. Have not seen the snow this deep in the city before.

channel 4 reported 4.5" in central park about an hour ago. I figured she must've been hittin the pipe when she said it, but I had to double check just to make sure. I measured 5 times right around the 62nd and cpw entrance. The lowest amount was around 10.5" and the highest was 13", and the snow is coming down as hard as ever. I've never seen the roads this bad....absolute insanity.

The conditions out there right now are the worst winter conditions I have ever experienced. The wind is howling and the snow makes it impossible to see more than half a block down. The snow/wind combo is simply unmatched in this area for at least the last 15 years.

I have about 10-12 in Nanuet in Rockland. Anyone else from my area?

I haven't gone out to measure (and have no desire to either since it's just frigid out there with the wind). Couldn't even estimate with all of the snow drifts out there. All I know is that it is snowing extremely hard and it is really windy.
