Chris L
Wow, Upton is really going nuts for my location. I don't think I've seen this before. This Afternoon: Snow and widespread blowing snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Some thunder is also possible. High near 27. Blustery, with a north wind between 18 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible. Tonight: Snow and widespread blowing snow. The snow could be heavy at times. Some thunder is also possible. Low around 19. Windy, with a north wind between 24 and 26 mph, with gusts as high as 49 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 10 to 16 inches possible. I haven't seen a forecast that BULLISH since Presidents Day of 2003....
NorthShoreWx
How were your winds in Jan 1996? I consider that my windiest-- so far. The snowstorms last winter were very windy too. Excellent winds in '96, but not so out of line with some of the others we've had since.
Blizzardo
aren't you in Middlesex? Mt holly hasn't updated in a while. They're also too high on the temps, going for highs of 32-33 in Somerset/Middlesex county is absurd I am currently in Bloomfield and will be for the storm. danstorm
Hey! I lost touch with Eastern and then had to text Midlo for the new forum address... I was so upset I couldn't track with y'all for this one ... and boy does it look like a BIGGIE. After this storm, I'll have to hear the full story about Eastern but, for now, it's all about this juicy monster... I moved to the city (I overlook Battery Park) and look forward to shooting video throughout the day/night. Here she comes!!! http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=OKX&product=N0Z&overlay=11101111&loop=yes
jm1220
starting to worry abt the dry slot...i think the RUC shows it getting this far west (but im a worrier) Unless the low pretty much tracks overhead, we're perfectly fine in Nassau County. I think the only people that have to worry about the dry slot are out over the Twin Forks. The RUC is way more aggressive with it than any other model, it changes Boston over to rain and then dryslots them. No other model is close to that. tmagan
I remember during the Blizzard of 1996 the OKX ZFP for that Sunday night was just simply: 'Blizzard conditions'.
Zir0b
That's literally getting the looks a frontogenic band from Delaware to New York City pivoting west. Indeed, RGEM is already wrong.
Sn0waddict
That band just off the south shore(near eastern LI) looks like it means BUSINESS. I'm interested in seeing what it ends up doing,
billgwx
I wouldn't worry too much about the dry slot yet...at first I think will serve to destabilize the mid levels and enhance convective/thundersnow potential.
Sunny and Warm
Yeah, this is coming a little bit west of what the 12z models were showing already. I don't think anybody in our area has serious dry slot issues yet...but if I were on Montauk I might be watching carefully. I honestly don't see how Montauk misses the dry slot at some point. The storm appears to be ramping up faster than progged, and it appears on the wv loop that the SLP may be tugged by the 500 closed low to stay pretty close the coast. That should NOT affect NJ or NY, but may provide points west with more snow and wind.

jm1220
That band just off the south shore(near eastern LI) looks like it means BUSINESS. I'm interested in seeing what it ends up doing, The snow is definitely coming down heavy here in Long Beach, and the flake size is nice, dendrites/aggregates. We're definitely cashing in on high ratios, which hopefully we can continue on until the wind really kicks up and blows the flakes to shreds. The sky is also quite dark. ARyan
You are probably right. Weenie mistake on my part (hangs head in shame since I don't really like that term). But there will be a dry slot somewhere to our east. I should probably correct what I said...I wouldn't want to be right under it but I would want to be right next to it. That's where you will get the best lift.

nzucker
Wow that band should crush you guys!! This is starting to look epic....already have moderate snow in Westchester and the banding looks to be intensifying and moving west rapidly. Really an impressive radar signature so early in the game. LocoAko
Just under an inch here so far but the wind is really whipping it around. The band coming onshore should give me something good for quite a while.
danstorm
Thanks, George!!! I was lost in the woods there for a while... but found the campfire... HUDDLE UP, folks ... I'm committed with my family to a Broadway show tonight but I don't want to go ... I want to be outside in this beast! Maybe I can skip out at intermission. Shaping up to potentially be a top 5 snowfall for me... my dad couldn't believe it when I told him that this morning! Hey Dan!! Good luck, and welcome back "home"!!
