Gotta love ho at 27 degrees the snow still melts on NYC streets, until it comes down at crazy rates...

Probably the 10 million tons of salt they dumped on the streets from last week's "event." Here where the streets were salted sporadically you'll drive down 10 blocks and half of them would be snow covered and the other half wet. It's definitely eating away at it though and even the wet ones are getting coated with time.

This is about the highest sun angle right now, also the snow is not terribly heavy yet...most main highways are wet but once the rates reach 1 inch per hour they'll get bad quickly.

SG, then how come on April 7, 2003 it snowed all day and stuck everywhere from the start.... we ended up with 7 inches. One of my favorite snowstorms (and winter)!

Don, what does it take to qualify as a KU event? I've been a bit confused about this-- if I remember right is it three of the five big east coast cities have to get 10" or more? (3 of the following: DCA, BWI, PHL, NYC, BOS). I call a "limited" KU, one that only drops 10" plus in one of those cities.

I didn't seen an exact definition in the two volume set.

16Z RUC at 10hrs http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/ruc/hr4/images/ruc_slp_010l.gif

Still keeping with a heavier band getting into western NJ and eastern PA. It does however seem a touch further east with the SLP then runs from several hours ago. Still an outlier with that bullish push that far west with that heavy band but still interesting none-the-less.
