I'm thrilled this morning. I fell asleep last night at around midnight, woke up around 4 and a lot of melting had taken place from the warm wet ground and Oddly the temp had risen to 33 and it was even melting from the trees. For some reason the temp had actually risen to 33 and I maybe had an inch left on the ground. How the temp rose between midnight and 4 I will never know since there was strong caa overhead at least (the wind was calm).

But I Checked the radar and and sure enough snow was reforming just like we talked about yesterday and it's been snowing ever since with no sign of a let up yet. It's a dry snow but I've had an additional 2 inches I would say so far..with about 3 on the ground. Right now, i have moderate snow and 29. Thanks to the melting, everything was wet so this actually dry snow has stuck to the trees and it looks beuutiful. Will need to take some pics and show them later.

The nam suggested this wouldn't stop until sometime this afternoon. I dare say I might end up with 4 on the ground by then at this rate.

Jeeez.....after the last 3 winters, you have to wonder if we have totally gotten out from under the screw zone title? This has been an unbelievable string....about the only thing we haven't seen lately is the classic N Ga. ice storm, but who cares if we get one of these consistently.

What an unbelievable storm, I went to bed at 11:30 last night with hardly a cloud in the sky...woke up at 6:00 to more moderate snow....am right under the heavier band developing in NE Ga...still snowing hard as we speak.....this was utterly fantastic. Have picked up another inch I would say.

Nice. Wasn't sure how far west it would get but I'm happy it's safely far enough lol I wish I could see my snow better. I'm in the worst possible spot in a situation like this. I'm nearly the exact same distance from FFC, Macons, and GSP's radar and in each case I'm so far from the radar that it has a hard time picking up the snow here.

Right now I'm using gsp's since what I'm getting is coming from their direction. But there has been an impressive band west to southwest of athens since 4am. Been wondering what's been going on there because there have been high reflectivity showing up at the same latitude as me on jxp's radar.

I'm not in that highest and I have visibilities not much over 1/4 mile.

8am report northwest Chapel Hill: Snow, moderate at times.Temp 29.1. Accumulation: 4.5" :snowman:

Would that be reasonably accurate for me? Hahaha, haven't been outside yet because the whole house (LOTS of relatives) is asleep.

What do you think as far as this being the end of the snow? Is there more trying to backbuild and come get us?

When I got up just before sunrise, it was a beautiful sight to see all the trees so laden with heavy snow. It was such a wet snow, and the melting overnight and now 29 degrees allowed the perfect conditions to clump to everything. I'm about to take some measurements. The roads are black here, atleast mine. Still throwing down very large flakes. Be nice to see this swirl continue on for several more hours.

I doubt the interstates are in better shape than last night... snow has been falling since 2-3am and we have picked up another 1.5" since the 3" I recorded last night. Roads are getting worse... not better here.

I just had to clear the know of the thermometer and its dropping properly now... GSP is at 29 degrees currently.

Man. I am REALLY glad that you ended up getting good snow down there. I felt bad when you couldn't make the trip up. So, let in snow in Gville.:snowman::thumbsup:

If you did get ambitious, the news claims that the interstates are passable. I don't know how much we will get from upslope snow. NWS says 1-2, Ray's says 1-3 with 3-6 Western & Northern Buncombe.

You, obviously, could speak to that better than me.

I am so glad that you are getting snow. You, Phil, Brandon, Allan, Lookout, Jeremy, and MANY others add so much to this board, you deserve to cash in,

Well its too late. My professor... who is head of the upslope research we do launching weather balloons has already canceled our Intense Observational Period for snowfall. While the interstates near Asheville might not be so bad, I don't feel nearly as confident in Polk County where a 8% incline goes up to the Blue Ridge on I-26. NCDOT shows that the interstate here is still completely covered.

I'm more than pleased with the snowfall we have been able to get here this morning. This was not totally unexpected, but the intensity was!

I've got between 3" and 4" this morning on the ground. The radar shows the bands pivoting right over me. Beautiful sight, and still coming down hard, fluffy flakes.

That's great to hear, by the sounds of it you were pretty down last night.

Well the last 2 winters....it's been pretty remarkable. Never have had a spell of snow events like this in my lifetime...or at least that I can remember. Don't this look pretty? It just seems so bizarre though to see all that blue.

I must be in a hole or something in NW Charlotte. We had maybe 2-3 inches in the grass and the streets are still mostly black. Looks like the temps yesterday were just too warm to get good accumulation when good moisture came in. Always done in by the temps. Driving back from the mountains yesterday, the foothills looked like they got slammed.

Probably just as well. Snow has picked up again. I had cleared my snow board and it is now white. Also, it's 21.3 so there will be no melting at all today.

Be safe !!:)

thanks Jason. I'm happy with this.

Yeah, the temps were so warm (went to bed at 10:30 and still 32.2 deg.) and the heavy rates never made it to me, and I figured when this moisture axis pivoted, the flakes would be tiny again, but that was certainly wrong. They're huge and fluffy, and still falling strong. Those holes always popping up over my part of the county last night, well thats just so frustrating and so common here now, but it seems only my area to part of the Upstate experiences it. But atleast now the axis is rotating and its snowing hard and 29.:snowman:

GREAT news Robert!! Cashed in.

Just went out to pull some large limbs off the Chicken cage :)

Got 5" where I measured but more like 6 - 6 1/2" in the yard due to the little wind we had last night.

Roads are covered. Sitting at 28 and do not think I will make it to GSP forecast of 34!
