I mean, one can say the same about many places up north before Central Heating was mainstream / affordable...

Not the same. Even in colonial times, they had fireplaces to keep warm. And it cost nothing to make a fire.

2012 wins for me. I remember it hitting 100F in 1988 but I feel like the beginning of Summer wasn't hot at all, maybe even cool? 1995 was crazy with how high the dewpoints were with the heat. However, I remember there being some good backdoor cold fronts which brought highs down into the 70s around here. I think we were really on the NE edge of the heat and Ontario actually had much cooler weather, hence the backdoor cold fronts and also the big derecho that July. 2012 was warm to hot already in May and seemed like it just never gave up until September, when it actually cooled way down the second half of that month.

EDIT: And days like the ones we're expecting through the weekend (temps stuck in the 50s with nothing but stratocumulus and light stratiform rain/drizzle) only reaffirms how much I would hate having to deal with several months of it.

Exactly, give me heat over the crap we gotta sludge through in march/April, cold rain.

Yea my criteria for summer is a little loose. Temps in the 60s atleast is considered summer so may through September.

 

2.6 inches of rain yesterday. Glad most of rain is gonna stay to the south the next few days. Pretty epic totals for ohio valley incoming. Looks like in about 10 days we may consistently see almost 60 everyday.

I have two friends in the UK. They are constantly amazed at our extremes. A cold summer here would still be oppressively hot there, and a warm winter here would be frigid there.

An average summer in Detroit is 7° warmer than London, and an average winter in Detroit is nearly 16° colder than London.

May get grazed by a little rain tomorrow, but mostly looking pretty quiet for the next 7-10 days for this area.  

Unless something crazy happens at the end of April MLI should have the futility seasonal snowfall record in the bag.

Came into Harrison last evening to full snow cover and fog. Looked like back in December. I'm not sure weeks of this backwards spring crap is worth it for the handful of perfect low-humidity, sunny and mid-70s days that we get up here between Independence and Labor day. Last year was the earliest, warmest, and longest warm season on record for NMI. It was quite fantastic and nothing like my memories living up here back in 90-97. Warm seasons in SEMI seemed to last forever by comparison. Endless. I figured 7 months were "warm season" (Apr-Oct) downstate. Not always summer hot, but mostly mild with little in the way of serious snow threats. I cannot wait for a new season. Btw, what's this thing called "green-up" I see people posting about? 

My 22 yrs living down along the 94 corridor including 2012 had me dreading July/Aug. If you had to do anything outside you were a ball of sweat inside 10 mins. 2007 had some nasty heat too. I'm also a Michigander native who spent a rather hot summer of 2010 living and working in Ft Worth. I did have working A/C (car, work office, and apt). Limited most of my outside fun to after dark and dressed minimally. It was like being on vacation except my dark blue ride could be so hot by lunch time you'd risk burning your fingers if you weren't careful. That heat was a dry heat summer with prevailing winds off of the deserts of N Mexico. Dry heat = more bearable. Was told they do get humid summers when winds are mostly off the Gulf. 

Love my 4 seasons but this time of year, when winter is trying to end, but spring has yet to really take hold is the worst 4-6 weeks up this way. That part hasn't changed LOL

When did you hit the point where you rooted the futility? Just crazy how MLI got skipped all winter. Not that it was particularly snowy ANYWHERE in the region outside the belts, but 8.2" is insane. Goes without saying theyll have a better winter in '25-26.

I probably started back in January lol. More than just being sarcastic and pissy really.  Never really thought it'd actually happen lol.

I always say, whenever people say that in January, that its way too soon. But by the time March came around and the pattern turned milder, it became a very realistic "goal" for MLI. 

I can honestly say ive fortunately never been close to that situation...but if I was, id be super pissy and still root for an April snowstorm to ruin it.

MLI will also finish with the 3rd least amount of days with 1"+ snowcover- 17 days (this ties with 1921-22 & 1943-44). The 2 winters that had less were 1927-28 (16 days) and 1986-87 (8 days).

1988 heat was for MI was end of May to mid-August, the main flow was from the SW.  I.e. it was definitely not as humid and 1995 and 2012.  Yeah 1995 had a major Derechos (July 13).  1995 was the summer I got struck by lightning (indirectly thankfully)!!

All 3 of those hot summers had something special about them and equally memorable for me.

I was think more like 70s but yeah I am also a bit more loose on summer 

I ended up with over 3".  I wish I could give exact but my rain gauge failed during the heaviest part of the storm .  This immediate area had flooding (not my house as I am on a decent hill).   Many yards were flooded.  It was a great day (though not wishing destruction on anyone).
