1905 - The town of Taylor, in southeastern Texas, was deluged with 2.4 inches of rain in fifteen minutes. (The Weather Channel)

1963 - A tornado, as much as 100 yards in width, touched down south of Shannon, MS. The tornado destroyed twenty-seven homes along its eighteen mile path, killing three persons. Asphalt was torn from Highway 45 and thrown hundreds of yards away. Little rain or snow accompanied the tornado, so it was visible for miles. (The Weather Channel)

1973 - The Mississippi River reached a crest of 43.4 feet, breaking the prevous record of 42 feet established in 1785. (David Ludlum)

1987 - A storm off the southeast coast of Massachusetts blanketed southern New England with heavy snow. Totals of three inches at Boston MA, 11 inches at Milton MA, and 17 inches at Worcester MA, were records for so late in the season. Princeton MA was buried under 25 inches of snow. 1989 - Thunderstorms produced severe weather in Arkansas, Louisiana and eastern Texas, with more than 70 reports of large hail and damaging winds. Softball size hail was reported at Palestine TX. 1990 - A storm system crossing northern New Mexico blanketed parts of the Rocky Mountain Region and the Northern High Plains with heavy snow, and produced blizzard conditions in central Montana. Much of southern Colorado was buried under one to three feet of snow. Pueblo tied an April record with 16.8 inches of snow in 24 hours. Strong canyon winds in New Mexico, enhanced by local showers, gusted to 65 mph at Albuquerque. I remember days like this living back in Long Beach. Would be hearing about 80s to the west. But wind gusts over 30 and blowing sand at the beach with 50s. I always had to hose down my bike after getting sandblasted riding the Long Beach board walk.

yeah, we got into the upper 30s 2 nights in a row.  its been good sleeping weather with the windows cracked open.  Worst part is the birds singing their sex songs at 445 am though waking me up.

Definitely strenuous riding on the boardwalk those days.

You remembered! Yes, I work in vector disease ecology, and we monitor the downstate region for ticks, mosquitoes, and all the diseases they bring us. So far, it is too early to tell if this is a high year for ticks or not when speaking about numbers. It is off to an early start, though. However, if it stays dry with low humidity, that will absolutely stress the tick population. Based on the relatively cold and dry winter, though, we would forecast an average to below-average tick year. As for mosquitoes, too bad we can’t get a late low 20s freeze overnight this week to decrease their numbers. If it stays dry, though, they may have similar issues. I don’t think we will stay dry, though, unfortunately. I think the humidity and thus moisture will pick up by June.

71 at home, 58 in Long Beach. Was actually expecting colder on the barrier islands.

The HRRR is spot on with temps at 1PM. The NAM tends to be too cool.

was chillier then i was expecting this morning temps in upper 50's but with a very gusty wind..and low dewpoint..

It takes a while for the blacktop and buildings to heat up and absorb the sun's rays, attic spaces to fill with hot air, day in and day out.  So even though April temperatures may say summer, there is a lot of all around warming to occur, not to mention heat loss during the cool dry nights.

Yep not terrible on the barrier islands actually. Long Beach made it up to 60. Winds are picking up though-JFK at 20mph this hour so right on the water might be nasty with blowing sand.

Major wind kicked up like 30 minutes ago and I'm down around 67 degrees. 

But temps here maxed out at 73 or 74 and stayed there for hours, they couldn't get as high as yesterday.

That would be fantastic. Build up the soil moisture in our warm season source region. This way maybe we can actually have a severe season this year. With all the wind and jet dynamics maybe we will we can get some EML high wind events. Been a long, long time since we saw one of those classic region wide squall lines that survives all the way to the coast.

Another pristine day today. Hit 75.9 on my station. Currently, 68.7 with a refreshing breeze.
