Looks like finishing up the last batch here. Totals look to stay at 2.5 inches.

If we didn't get those couple of changes to sleet this would've easily been a 4-5 inch event here.

was the entirety of May 2020 as cold as that weekend was when we got snow?

I'm trying to remember other cold Mays....

May 1992?  Sandwiched between two great summers!

May 1992 had lows in the 30s and snow as close by as Morristown NJ.

May 1977 (although we had 90s in April, earliest on record for JFK) and a hot summer with a record hot 2 week stretch in July.  May 1977 had that snowy noreaster on the same day that we got snow in May 2020.

We NEED to go back to use the complete historical temperature averages, not just the most recent averages.

I just remember  a lot more 90s in April occurring back in the late 70s (as you've shown with your data) and then of course we had 1991, 2002 and 2010.  I think a few years ago we had back to back days in the 90s in April?  Wasn't there some data posted showing that -NAO is becoming more common in April and May while +NAO is becoming more common during the winter?

This would be drizzly crap in January too. Occluded low flinging easterly nastiness off the ocean. Inland would do better with higher ratios.

Finished with 1.5" here.  Pavement and concrete surfaces accumulated as well but with just under an inch of accumulations on those surfaces.  Roads did get snow covered.

Temperature dropped to 31 under a heavier band.

No plows and no SALT so far thank goodness.

Maybe not in February 2015 when it was cold enough to get freezing drizzle and snow showers on an onshore easterly flow in Montauk.

Sparta plowed and salted our street.  The plow was warranted but the salt was completely unnecessary.
Currently getting a lighter end sleet/snow mix and 34 degrees.

Allot of the time the guys doing the snow removal do not have a deep understanding of the weather. Just wasting salt and damaging the environment in this case. Any snow left on the road after plowing will melt in quickly melt in April as insulation makes it right through the clouds.

One of the theories is that global warming took a recession, as some of the greenhouse gases were being absorbed by the oceans, which was used to explain some colder temperatures in the 80s?

Absolutely the definition of misery mist currently on the south shore. High 30s gusty north wind and sheet drizzle. It almost (looks) like light snow.

I've been saying that the "pause" in rising temps of the 70s and part of the 80s was because global aerosols peaked during this time, causing some volcanic like cooling effect on the atmosphere. 

Once serious cleanup of the air began in the 90s, couple that with ever increasing GHG emissions, the temps resumed their march upward.

While 90s have always been rare in April, the highest maxes for the month have been steadily increasing.

I woke up a couple times overnight and heard the pinging of sleet on the window.

Quite an overperformer as far as wintry weather. Congrats to folks to the north and west that got accumulating snow. I wouldn't want to see it this late in the season, but I know some people still enjoy it this late. 

Today is just going to be awful with the temp stuck around 40. I'm glad the rest of the month is looking much warmer after we get through today. Just normal weather with temps around 60 will feel great after this weather.

What year was that shocking dip when we never hit even 70 in April-- that really stands out.

Looks like 2002 had the highest average high for April-- when we had that megaheatwave in April.

That was in 2020 leading up to the record May snowfall. April 2002 was only a little warmer than average by modern standards. But the warmth from the 13th to 19th was very impressive.
