Awful day for my son’s first baseball game. First pitch at 5:30. Will be absolutely brutal

Already went through that this past weekend with the travel tournament kick off my son had.  Made it to semi-finals before losing to the winner of the tournament but 4 games in two days with cold weather (40s) and rain was miserable.  Sun will at least be out for your son's game.

The wind will be killer.

Yankees home opener April 1996 was a classic and one of my favorites of all time! We had 4 inches of snow here.

Snow or not, it’s definitely going to feel alllllllllot colder this evening with peaking CAA. It’s going to be one of the nights were the temp drops rapidly then slows dramatically

I'm actually excited about it.  I'm all about temperature extremes-- both high and low.  It's rare now to get temperatures in the 20s this late.  Lets see if we can get below 30, 32 is a lock.

Records:

Highs:

EWR: 88 (1991)
NYC: 90 (1991)
LGA: 89 (1991)
JFK: 82 (1959)

Lows:

EWR: 23 (1982)
NYC: 25 (1982)
LGA : 25 (1982)
JFK: 26 (1982)

Historical:

1919 - A tornado swarm in northern Texas resulted in the deaths of 64 persons. (David Ludlum)

1926 - The lightning-set oil depot fire near San Luis Obispo CA boiled over and engulfed 900 acres. Many tornado vortices resulted from the intense heat of the fire. One such tornado traveled 1000 yards, picked up a house and carried it 150 feet, killing the two occupants inside. (The Weather Channel)

1973 - A severe storm brought high winds and heavy snow to Iowa. Belle Plain received 20 inches of snow, and 19 inches blanketed Dubuque, record totals for both locations for so late in the season. Snow drifts up to sixteen feet high closed highways. (David Ludlum)

1987 - A cold front crossing the Northern Plateau and the Northern Rocky Mountain Region produced high winds in northeastern Wyoming. Winds gusting to 69 mph at Sheridan WY downed power lines and caused some property damage. (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data)

1988 - Strong northerly winds ushered cold air into the north central U.S. The strong winds, gusting to 60 mph at Rapid City SD and Williston ND, reduced visibilities in blowing dust over the Dakotas. (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data)

1989 - Two dozen cities in the southwestern U.S. reported new record high temperatures for the date. Phoenix AZ equalled their record for April of 104 degrees established just the previous day. (The National Weather Summary)

1990 - Twenty-two cities reported record low temperatures for the date as readings dipped into the 20s and 30s across much of the eastern U.S. Freezing temperatures severely damaged peach and apple orchards in West Virginia, where prolonged mild weather since January had caused an early blooming of spring vegetation. State and Federal agencies estimated a 50 percent loss in production for peaches and "Delicious Red Apples". (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data)

Tomorrow will be another unseasonably cool day. High temperatures will top out in the upper 40s in New York City. The low temperature tomorrow morning could be near freezing in New York City and perhaps in the upper 20s outside the City.

It will begin to turn somewhat milder after midweek with temperatures approaching near seasonable levels during the weekend.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +1.3°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was -0.1°C for the week centered around April 2. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +1.23°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +0.17°C. Neutral ENSO conditions will likely continue through at least late spring.

Early indications are that summer 2025 will be warmer than normal in the New York City and Philadelphia areas. The potential exists for a much warmer than normal summer (more than 1° above normal).

The SOI was +13.84 yesterday.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was -0.790 today.

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied 60% probability that New York City will have a cooler than normal April (1991-2020 normal). April will likely finish with a mean temperature near 53.3° (0.4° below normal).

This was the earliest 90 on record before 2010.  Is this the widest gap between record high and record low in the NYC record? I love this wide variance.
