There was a midnight high of 46 here overnight but dropped into the 30s just before 6am and have been there ever since. 38/36 currently with occasional drizzle and mist.

Same here.  High at mid-night and at least mist and drizzle all day.  Showers move through from time to time.

Tomorrow and Wednesday will be unseasonably cool days. High temperatures will likely remain confined to the 40s in New York City through Wednesday. The low temperature on Wednesday morning could be near freezing in New York City and perhaps in the upper 20s outside the City.

It will begin to turn milder after midweek with temperatures approaching near seasonable levels.

The ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly was +1.3°C and the Region 3.4 anomaly was -0.1°C for the week centered around April 2. For the past six weeks, the ENSO Region 1+2 anomaly has averaged +1.23°C and the ENSO Region 3.4 anomaly has averaged +0.17°C. Neutral ENSO conditions will likely continue through at least late spring.

Early indications are that summer 2025 will be warmer than normal in the New York City and Philadelphia areas. The potential exists for a much warmer than normal summer (more than 1° above normal).

The SOI was +6.78 today.

The preliminary Arctic Oscillation (AO) was -0.776 today.

Based on sensitivity analysis applied to the latest guidance, there is an implied 60% probability that New York City will have a cooler than normal April (1991-2020 normal). April will likely finish with a mean temperature near 53.5° (0.2° below normal).

Snowing at the Tigers Yankees game

Last year, the Mets were in jeopardy of having to make up a game missed early in the season due to weather.  Unbalanced schedules and trying to pack too many games in, especially early in the season, is risky.  They got away with it this year, so far.  Opening Day series used to have an off day, just in case there was a weather cancellation.  Too much money involved now to go back to a 154 game schedule.

Nothing has really changed except moving the start date up a week to account for a longer playoff season. I think most teams still get the day after opening day off

Unless they play opening day in a removable dome.

But this year opening day was March 27th, this is ridiculous!

Opening Day should be in the second week of April at the earliest. After April 10th!

Look, it's often warmer in November than it is in March or early April, why are they so opposed to having the playoffs cover the first half of November at least?

Love this weather

I've turned my heat way down because I refuse to pay Con Edison in April and my house is freezing lol

Luckily with Sun tomorrow the house can warm up naturally with the higher insolation.

62 degrees. I usually have it at 68 in winter. But with the strong Sun this time of year it should be warmer indoors tomorrow. It's just that it's been cloudy for basically 3+ days now that it allowed it to get so chilly inside.

My guess is because the NFL and college really are a strong draw by then.

My solution is to have the first two weeks of games in the MLB season hosted almost exclusively in domed stadiums or warm weather cities, then make up for that later in the summer in the cold weather cities / undomed stadiums.

Wind won’t help tomorrow once the sun goes down that’s for sure.

I might cave and put it up a bit so the spouse doesn't get pissed. Otherwise I'd ride it out.

1982 and 2010 were both such great years, good to see them decorate the top spots on the leaderboard!!

Yes, esthetics aside playing in Pittsburgh and Detroit wasn't a good move lol.

While that sounds like a really impressive gust, the obs just a few feet under 6,000. Mt. Washington offen gusts that high. And has gusted to 231mph.

I was thinking the same, and as it turns out there were 31 states.  But the 31 already included the ones where it would be toughest to have snow, like Florida.  BTW, since I encountered this while looking into it, here's what the flag looked like in 1857:
