WxWatcher007
With respect to those still tracking wintry chances, now that we’re in March I figured it’s time to fire up the grading thread. It’s another F for me, although the very wintry period and glacier in February, along with below zero temperatures here in central CT in January made that F a little harder to get to. Still, however, I ended up sub 20” of snow again and somehow worse off than last year. Even when I canceled winter in January my prediction for snowfall for the rest of the season was too optimistic which is insane. Good years will return eventually, but of the last seven here, only one got close to climo.
weatherwiz
There are two ways to grade. if grading off the pretty blues and “good looks” then A+ if grading off results, D.
Torch Tiger
D+ overall F snowfall C+ moderately cold, sustained cold, the little "pack" held up fairly well 1

tamarack
C+ for temps, thanks to the first BN for DJF in 6 years. C- as we entered March at 90% of average with no events 10"+. (About 75% of winters here have a double-digit.)
Typhoon Tip
B+ for sustaining snow pack. I've never seen 4.5" last so long in any winter spanning my tenure on this planet like that which transpired up until very recently. Just wasn't very much. Otherwise it would be a solid A
Kitz Craver
It wasn’t a good winter, however I’m shocked that 18” on the season gave me the sustained wintry vibe I experienced compared to the last many. For that reason alone I give the winter a C- overall on all metrics
klw
Actually I would give it a 7 or 8 so far. Need to see how the next 5 or 6 weeks go.
CT Valley Snowman
21 inches so far and the pattern doesn't look like we'll get much more so F here, despite a colder winter than recent with some decent periods of snow cover. It's like putting lipstick on a pig. You can't cover up for getting less than 1/2 of your seasonal average. It is what it is.

This winter was nothing close to those rare ones 1
WinterSnow
My rating would probably be far too generous due to this being my first winter in New England, all of my past winters spent in the pathetic south. Positives: +Consistently in the 20s and 30s with the rare "warm" days being in the 40s, rarely 50s +Snow on the ground a substantial portion of the season. Negatives: -No real snowstorms, snow on ground was from successive smaller events. I'd give this a darn good rating, but as I said, I'm biased. I just can't even begin to describe how refreshing this winter has been for me. It may not have been a true New England winter (apparently), but it's night and day from what I dealt with before. Much, much more in line with how a winter should be, so much better for my mental health.

rimetree
C+ Still not close to normal, but better than the previous two winters. We had a good period of a couple of weeks or so with something resembling deep winter having a solid pack refreshed with occasional minor events. Cool and windy with nothing to show for. All penny events mostly overnight and Every big h5 KU pattern animated by Brooklyn failed.

Brewbeer
Solid C+, maybe B- Good snow retention, good stretch of cold weather with a couple of legit cold days. Used the snowthrower 4 times and battled the ice in front of the garage door. Still have snow banks on my street.
dendrite
A little too much cold and snow for my liking in the 2nd half, but at least it insulated the soil. The lack of liquid precip was a plus. I’ll go C, but it could’ve been higher if we had managed a few warm days in Jan and Feb. It’s been an easy March though…maybe I need to go C+/B-. Prismshine Productions
Agree. C grade for Greenfield. B- here, still have some slight retention (max depth was 26" at one point) and less than an inch away from seasonal snowfallSent from my SM-S156V using Tapatalk

SJonesWX Posted yesterday at 01:44 PM Share Posted yesterday at 01:44 PM As disappointing as this winter was, i have to go with a C+ (maybe closer to B-, but whatever) -late start, with another New Year grinch storm. pretty dam good middle, the stretch from 1/11 to 3/4 had no rainers, which is unusual. Poor ending, melt started on 3/4 -good pack retention, had snow on the ground from 1/11 through at least 3/10. Also had good depth, with around 18-20" at the peak (currently between 4-6") -good cold air, nothing crazy and no records or anything, but it was consistently cold from 1/1 to 3/
