The Philly region has been doing much better than the Lehigh Valley with rain. I only got 0.18 this am, and the airport, a bit further north, only got a few hundredths of an inch. The northern LV in general has seen very little rain, even earlier in the week.

Some storm totals with the frontal passage overnight across the area. Atglen 1.10" /KMQS 0.67"/ Chester Springs 0.35" / East Nantmeal 0.54" / Glenmoore 0.43"/ Warwick Twp. 0.54"/ Devault 0.32"/ Kennett Square 0.88"/ West Chester 0.76". Behind the front, today will be almost 10 degrees cooler than yesterday and another 10 degrees cooler this morning. By tomorrow we will be a few degrees below normal with high temperatures in the low to mid 50's. Shower chances ramp up again toward tomorrow morning and again by Sunday PM. We turn much colder to well below normal temperatures through much of next week with below freezing mornings Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning.

Thought of Poltergeist immediately and so did this guy who says he has a better method (30 X 30) on counting distance. Not sure if it's accurate? (Saw Poltergeist in the theater, 1982, Village Mall, Horsham  :oldman: )

End Location:           1 ENE Media / Delaware County / PA
End Lat/Lon:            39.9194 / -75.3729

Survey Summary:
A strong downburst of winds from a severe thunderstorm produced
significant damage early Friday morning. The most significant
damage occurred in the borough of Media and Nether Providence
Township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

In Media, the most concentrated damage occurred to the northeast
of downtown between east State and 4th Streets. Several trees were
snapped at their trunks or uprooted. A building at the corner of
Jasper and Monroe Streets lost a significant amount of its roof
covering. The damage in this area was unidirectional with downed
trees and roof coverings pushed to the northeast. In Nether
Providence Township, the most significant damage occurred between
Providence Road and I-476, south of East Baltimore Pike. Several
more trees were uprooted and snapped in this area, falling
unidirectional towards the east-southeast. Additional sporadic
tree damage was noted between the two concentrated areas of
damage.

The overall diverging, unidirectional pattern of the damage is
consistent with a downburst event. The damage to multiple roofs as
well as snapping of trees along their trunks leads to an
estimated maximum wind speed of 95-105 mph.

The National Weather Service would like to thank Delaware County
Emergency Management and Mr. Lou Ruh for their valuable assistance
with this damage survey, along with residents who reported these
impacts.

Funny you said this because that’s exactly what happened here in Media at 4:45 am this morning.

I slept through it (in my defense I'm working through hopefully the end of a flu, lol). Didn't get the wind here so much, but we did get another 0.92" of rain. Also lost power briefly, apparently.

well, I am clearly disappointed that we missed out on all the significant rain again this morning. The fronts hanging up over the mid south  and to the NW of our area just will not allow any GOA moisture to get up here. Light rain showers are not going to cut it for ending this drought.  Sundays t-storms rains chances with heavy rain are dying as I write.  The dry cold winds also return with a vengeance.  We are screwed from Monday on with Tuesday feeling like winter and the heater on full blast. Would not be surprised to see flurries/graupel in the LV.  I am tired of being teased.  Incredible how the Memphis TN area nearly gets a foot of rain and we cannot even squeeze out a popcorn fart of decent precip.

I was asked to do an analysis of the drought conditions here in East Nantmeal, With the 0.08" of rain so far today here in East Nantmeal we have now recorded measurable rain for 6 straight days with 2.34" total during that time. We are starting to put a dent into the earlier drought conditions. From April 2024 thru today we have received 42.42" of rain with normal rain over this little over 1 year period being 51.39". So we are at 83% of normal rain with a rain deficit of 8.97" since April 1, 2024.

Cloudy and much chillier today with temperatures struggling to get to the mid 50's. Normal high temperatures this time of the year are within a couple degrees of 60 here in Chester County. We will fall to well below those levels following a strong cold front passage on Monday. Highs Monday through Wednesday will remain in the chilly 40's before we moderate to near normal by the end of the week. We should see sub-freezing low temperatures on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning. Our average date of the last freeze here in Chester County is April 18th in the higher elevation spots and April 25th in valley spots. Rain chances will continue through Monday although the Phillies should have no issues with getting in today's game at 4pm. The best chance of heavier rain Sunday night into Monday morning. We could see an additional 0.50" to 1.00" of rain by Monday's AM commute.

It has been frustrating lately. I think it’s a combo of that stable easterly flow off the cold Atlantic ruining our precip dynamics on days like today and bad luck where the lines setup when the flow turns around to the southwest.
