Definitely does not feel like a warm March on Long Island.

I think if you polled the general public they would probably say that temps have been near "normal" for March. However, today's average high for ISP is only 48, and were going near 60 today. So 50's and 60's is above average for LI in March. The average high for Islip does not reach 60 degrees until April 19th; 70 degrees until May 22nd.  If you lived right on the water, it would never seem warm unless you have a good offshore wind. For example, there could be a day where it gets pretty warm briefly in the morning (I.E. 65°), but by the afternoon the sea breeze comes through making it much colder. The official high would be 65, even though the temp at 3pm would be closer to 55, closer to "normal".

In other words, the ocean is great at modulating

We have also simply gotten used to warmer temps.   A temp of 60 in March 50 yrs ago would have felt like an inferno-today it feels average

can we get 75 and sunny with minimal wind... winter is dead lets have some decent weather. getting tired of the spring time "fake nice" weather, looking out the window and the sun is gorgeous but really sick of stepping outside into a wind tunnel

75 this time of year is solid air conditioner weather. Sun will bake a house at that temp. No thanks.

I'll take a nice 60 to 65 straight throiugh the end of June

No one wants this crap useless cold weather now.

When will climate change finally become strong enough so we don't get this crap cold windy weather anymore after March 10th and April.

That's what I'm waiting for!

After the time change it should never be below 40 until next fall.

If this were the case the northeast would be underwater by now. That would be representative of like 2.5-3C of global warming.

lack of foliage?

I don't know man, I have very fond memories of the April heatwave of 2002 with 96 degrees.  It was very dry and some of the clearest and most beautiful blue skies I have ever seen.

Yes but weather does not follow *averages* that's just a mathematical simplifying of weather.  I would rather look at when the first 60 and 70 degrees of the season happen.  I guarantee that the first 60 of the season happens way before April 19th and that it's actually very rare not to get 60 at least once or twice during the winter.  And I don't believe there has been a single April without 70 degrees happening at least once.

Averages don't give a good picture of our actual climate.

Also, the ocean is great at making the weather boring (I love extremes.)

March was mild enough for me to put the boat in the water in the 80s; sometime in the 90s it started getting too cold. Even now, most boats won't start their seasons til April, or even mid April; 40 years ago they would all be ready to go in early March; some of this has to do with the collapse of various fisheries, but it's also weather related.

Yes March in the 80s-early 90s was very nice.  Especially 1990.

Thats insane. We’re so f*cked.

Climate change is taking away our snow and it will only get worse from here. We're simply becoming too warm for snow most of the time. I'd expect our snow averages of around 14-15" in the 2020s to continue from here on out and become less and less over time.

It wouldn't really be a problem if we could get more concentrated snowfall in DJF or even just JF.  If we could get 15-20 inches of snow in JF (each month, not total), then I think most would be happy.

Probably since it has been around 5° colder through the 17th than last year which was in 1st place. So dropping back to 7th warmest feels chilly by comparison. But compared to some recent Marches like we had during the 2010s it’s nearly 5-10° warmer. So March during the 2020s has dramatically shifted warmer and less snowy than the 2010s were.

You're right, averages don't paint the whole picture, but I was bringing them up to make a point that it's typically a lot cooler when you're right near the water in the spring. In April 2020, the warmest day was only 64 at ISP, so it has happened before if you get a below average April. Even when we do hit 70+ in April, it usually doesn't last long before a sea breeze comes through unless you have solid offshore flow. As for the ocean making weather boring, I hear ya, but it can make weather interesting in some respects imo. I love extremes too. We've missed out on 100 degrees temps in the summer because of ocean influence.

Yes, and it's been so wet in previous years that we've had a tough time heating up in the summer. Maybe more westerlies will help?

It's interesting Islip vs JFK, Islip is further east but also more inland.  But JFK is usually warmer than Islip unless the wind is due south.

Wait, last March was #1 warmest through the first 15 days? How's this possible-- it didn't even hit 80 in March.  The first 15 days of March 1990 must have been quite a bit warmer?
