DAW happens to be right in there, along with my back yard.

PSM and PWM are a lot cooler due to very cold gulf of Maine…this prevails most of the warm season months but is most pronounced from March to mid May

We met 2 groomers heading back on 143 and when we got by them i said in my helmet ahh nice flat trails, That lasted 2 miles and then back on ungroomed again, 20 to in town was moguls, Temps in the high 30's didn't help though, As soon as we hit ITS 84 back in Maine they were good the rest of the way with very little traffic.

That's part of the reason that having the free weekends separate in each state is a good thing.  There is only one trail from NH to Rangeley and they couldn't keep up with it when there was so much traffic.  Now people can go to each state when they want to try it out.

Talking to a local and he told me they had a groomer down and was waiting for parts, I said is that the only one you have? lol, The good thing about ATSC in Eustis, Is they pay the groomer operators so they're out just about every day and night grooming, They maintain 150 mi of trails, And Maine in total, Over 14,000 miles of groomed trails.

Uhg, already down to 12F  I'm guessing somewhere between 2F - 5F when I let the dog out in the morning.  I'm 200lbs and can walk across the snow pack without denting it now.  Glacier.

I think the snowpack will absorb a lot of the rain Wed/Thur in this area… it hasn’t been rained into yet up north in/on the mountains.  The pack will compress but shouldn’t release big water (not ripe).

The surface conditions will be rugged for skiing, snowmobiling, etc… but the depth will be there.

Average pack in PWM is 11", down from 20"  exactly 2 weeks ago.  

In that time we've had no new snow, two days in the 50's, several more in the 40's, and 0.49" rain.  With the cold today, I was able to walk on top of the pack without breaking through.   And I'm not NNE climo - far from it.  

My point is:  the pack across NNE will need a lot more than this cutter to make any kind or significant dent.

Who or what organizations pay for the grooming and maintenance of the fleet?

Those things aren’t cheap.  Must be tough though when groomers are down.

In VT, it’s a combination of local club fundraising and grants from VAST. The money to fund the grants comes mostly from the trail passes sold to riders. There is a large range of grooming equipment, from new Tuckers and Pisten Bully’s to ultility sleds with drags. You are correct, costs are a huge issue for us. VT is a little unique in that we are a private non-profit while other states have various degrees of state involvement/support. Either way, local clubs still provide the largest majority of work on trails and grooming support. 
 

While may we lack financial  support from State government, we do have direct support from the highest levels in VT. This was from Friday after a ride from Morrisville to Stowe.
