Funny talking about a good ski season past tense on March 17…

I mean, not to mention it also started very late— the Christmas break skiing was non-existent throughout northern New England.

There is nothing good about operating a seasonal business and losing 2 months of potential revenue.

I know snowfall was well below average in S NH, but I don't think it was that far below average well to the north...and its been reasonably cold.

It has gotten shorter for sure...also feel like DST moving up to the 2nd week of March in 2007 also did damage as people move onto to spring activities once that occurs.  I would think the local CT places had their last  ski weekend this past weekend....was a good solid 2 months this year, but yeah the front and back end have shortened with the warming climate especially in SNE and if it were not for the investment in snowmaking alot of places would be long gone.

December wasn't warm, though.....ideally, there would be a ton of snowfall and they wouldn't have to expend resources to make a great deal of snow, but I would think that the season is salavageable as long as its reasonably cold.

I get that it was only coldish by warmer 1991-2020 climo, but that still means it isn't prohibitvely warm

Not this year but generally speaking it has been warm the last 8-10 yrs-the dry weather actually helped this year to preserve the good conditions-a cutter or two is a disaster in any month.

Yes, last year was an abomination... but even 2022-2023 I don't think was that bad in NNE.

2020-2021 wasn't bad......2021-2022...eh....probably sucked.

I ski locally in southern NH at Pats Peak. the last 3 years:

-2024/2025: 12/13 (I missed opening day by a few days)  to present (I think they will close after this week)

-2023/2024: 12/1 (opening day) to 3/22 (closed a couple days later

-2022/2023: unsure of opening day, but it was sometime in January, to 3/22

Very consistent opening and closing dates regardless of what the Pope spouts

NNE does fine most years.  My comments are more directed at the smaller places in CT/western MA etc

Hoping to use my EPIC pass in VT one weekday before it all ends -I go out west every year and 6 days there makes sense to buy a season pass

I know 2019-2020 and 2023-2024 were nightmares, but really the only two dating back to the 2015-2016 super nino blood bath...so 3 in the last decade, which I'm sure is more than usual...its been a shitty stretch.

..100% correct!!...many people have left the snow plowing business because of the lack of revenue the past several winters.

The ski season in VT has been great this year. Has the pope not seen PF’s posts? NH and Maine were slower to start in the natural snow department, but made up in Feb. The lack of cutters and cold weather has helped those areas and kept the snow from becoming an icy granular mess.

The bolded is 100% correct but also the start of the AAU basketball season is also having an impact. Many parents are putting the money into basketball rather than skiing.

those plow guys must get paid by the storm then. We used to have a plow guy like that and it was great as we only spent money when it snowed, but he passed on and our new guy gets a seasonal contract. Just wrote him a check for March at $875. Looks like he'll have it pretty easy

Yes,  plow guys in this area get paid for how many times they plow during a storm...but if there are few storms they don't make much money at all.
