Yes, agreed.  Like a trend line of temperature dataset over 120 years angling in a consistent direction.  It is what it is.

I have personally witnessed biased, dishonest research and researchers influencing and/or altering results in both private sector and public settings at the the state and federal level so my perspective takes that heavily into consideration.

At one time it was fervently believed that:  the sun revolved around the earth, the earth was flat, bloodletting cured illness, lobotomies cured psychological disorders, eggs are bad for you, no, eggs are good for you, no eggs raise cholesterol, no, eggs have no effect on cholesterol, etc, etc, etc, the earth is entering another ice age, no the earth is warming, etc, etc, etc.

Presumably state-of-the-art science and research to some extent has been behind each one of those beliefs or understandings.  Today, us humans believe we're at the very pinnacle of our understanding of ourselves and our world, more knowledge than any civilization ever.  Current science and research is state-of-the-art.  Just like it has been throughout time immemorial.

Are our tools, methods, devices, understanding more precise than years past?  We sure think so.  Can that change in the future?  If the past is any guide, absolutely.

I see "science" as something very specific - a simple following of the scientific method.  A hard-line approach ensuring zero bias, reliable, concise data, etc.  When those essential components of science are toyed with, it ruins the "science".  Changing definitions, ignoring facts, inserting bias, altering data - these are all things that have become very evident to be occurring.  Even as we're at the pinnacle of our understanding.

So I concur, it is difficult to faithfully accept all science these days.  Maybe it has always been that way...?

Exactly. Old enough to remember what our rivers used to look like. The Charles and the Merrimack were cesspools. You can catch a striper in Watertown now. I'm sure the Connecticut River wasn't much better.

Provisions in the clean water act were rolled back yesterday. Future generations will be left with much the same thing. Start cleaning it again I guess...

Quite possibly fair, but will need to be scored.  The internet has substantially empowered citizens and communities.  Company gets caught polluting river?  They go on blast.  We can have legitimate arguments over the role of federal govt, but we all bear responsibilty for how we choose to spend our dollars and for monitoring local activities.  Regardless how we feel about what's happening, I don't see the downside in taking a more proactive approach when it comes to shaming bad actors.

I wonder if it will ever rain again? Forest fires will be raging next week.

The latest NAEFS guidance has increased PWAT values to near or just above 1.3" across most of southern New England. Rainfall totals could be in the 1.5" to 2" range with theGEPS and ECMWF ENS continuing to indicate a 20 percent chance that 24 hour rainfall may exceed 2" along the southern shores of RI and
MA. The GEFS, much like the deterministic GFS, continues to run slightly drier than other guidance; probs for exceeding 2" over 24 hours only reach around 10 percent over RI and southern CT, with less than 10 percent for southern MA.
