CoastalWx
LOL the oceans are massive heat engines now. One ASOS is not going to sway the science of being 1.5F too warm. We all know the crazy world is ending stuff is ridiculous, but everything points to warm. Do we think all this shit we're spewing into the atmosphere isn't having an effect?

Yea those 400 parts per million are a killer. Earth is warming due to warmer overnights. The obvious reason is more water vapor. We are a pimple on the Earth.

One example is The NWS allowing 2 degree variance in ASOS temps. IDK that isn't sound science But is that "science," or is that a personnel logistics problem ... It's getting harder to be a data driven org when outside, non-self-determining decisions are going around gutting their ability to be precise in that regard. Just one example that is relevant to current context: the NOAA/NWS losing critical infrastructure personnel (when they are already hurting no less ) I mean... duh. Right? I'm not making any kind of political statement here, but the reality is what it is... and a lot of these sites with questionable data, and even after the fact, how/if the data is adjudicated ... the whole of it is being further inhibited by those actions. It's a little challenging for me to hold accountability against the NOAA given that "attack" on their abilities - I've spoken to NWS people and they are struggling. As I'm sure you know, both are excellent absorbers of longwave radiation, which the Earth's surface emits. But regardless of whether the Earth is warming because of overnight temperatures versus. daytime temperatures is irrelevant at the end of the day. And as you know as well, the most extreme warming is occurring within the Arctic regions. This is also impacting stratospheric processes such as ozone. At the end of the day, the Earth goes through cycles of being warmer and cooler, however, due to increased CO2 we are severely messing with these cycles. For example, the current warming cycle the Earth is in coming off the last age, we are accelerating this cycle. We're going to see cold winters, we're going to see winters with alot of snow, we're going to see big storms...but these occurrences and return rates will likely decrease.

WinterWolf
It snowed in places it doesn’t snow this winter. It snowed 40 miles off the gulf coast into the gulf of America…on oil rigs with blowing powder. Places that it never snows(places with 4” snowfall as all time records ) got a foot with blizzard warnings issued, and blizzard conditions….nobody saw that happening AT ALL. And in such a large swath down there too. If that was suggested, everybody, including me would have laughed at that. Just goes to show that things change all the time. 5

We all understand how averages work right? Weather events vs. climate? The deep south can torch for a year but get a rogue snow event and everything is not what it seems?

But climate change does not mean it can't snow or be cold anymore...and it doesn't mean that places that don't typically get snow can't. That's the problem...99% of people don't understand what climate change means. anyone who thinks this or believes this is extremely misguided.

I think 100% of people don't know what it means because there is seemingly no clear definition. It went from "global warming" to "climate change" which is such a vague terminology it's essentially useless. 1

It went from "global warming" to "climate change" which is such a vague terminology it's essentially useless. I'm actually fine with the differentiating between the two. IMO, climate change and global warming are two very different beasts. By definition, all global warming means is the average increase in the Earth's temperature. And since coming out of the last ice age, the Earth has been on a warming trend, however, the argument is the warming is being accelerated and this is what then has branched into the climate change aspect. Who cares if the warming is attributed to natural cycles, human activity, a mixture of both, or because aliens on Pluto are directing lasers at us. Maybe climate change isn't a good term though. But with global warming, that doesn't mean every single location is warming or there can't be any cold. there still needs to be a balance so if its anomalously warm somewhere, chances are it needs to be anomalously cold somewhere...otherwise the Earth's energy budget and balance would be severely disrupted. but I guess one argument can also be this budget is already severely disrupted...the balance is off.
