Severe Thunderstorm Warning

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
  Northern Stafford County in northern Virginia...
  Southeastern Fauquier County in northern Virginia...
  Southeastern Prince William County in northern Virginia...

* Until 100 PM EST.

* At 1226 PM EST, a severe thunderstorm was located 8 miles west of
  Stafford, moving northeast at 55 mph.

  HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches
           to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as
           damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by
           downed trees. Localized power outages are possible.
           Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.

* Locations impacted include...
  Lake Ridge, Montclair, Roseville, Triangle, Dale City, Independent
  Hill, Garrisonville, Quantico, Ramoth, Woodbridge, Dumfries, Cherry
  Hill, Heflin, Aquia, Storck, Holly Corner, Occoquan, Glendie,
  Hartwood, and Ruby.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly
from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the
basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Seems like there's enough of a wedge west of the bay to keep the winds from mixing down to the surface effectively. All of the 40+mph wind gusts are east of the bay currently.

Mostly expecting that to be the case- though the HRRR sometimes underdoes convection. Wouldn't shock me to see an isolated rumble of thunder mainly west of US-15
