They did well

You mean Virginia

Yes they did, tossing the gfs/gefs was a mistake. Did way better with this than the Euro and Canadian. AI models did well too. I know I said yesterday we still have a shot but unfortunately things have only gotten worse on the models since then. This threat is cooked

Rough stretch continues for SNE

This hasn’t been a rough stretch at all. Sure, our fantasy big ones haven’t panned out but I’ve had more snowcover days on the coast this season than the last 3-4 years combined. Piles are huge right now, looks we’ve had a 12”+ storm. Pretty consistent cold too.

A rough stretch would be the last 2 winters. This one has not been that despite all the medium range fails.

Yeah this thing really never got inside D5. I mentioned that to Ray yesterday on how the discourse was pretty insane for 156 hour model solutions. I get that there was cross-model agreement but it’s still like D7, lol. It could have come back after slipping over the weekend but the time for that was probably yesterday.

Hey ORH, what are up to this weekend so far, it seems from roughly the M/D line south snowfall is above normal, while from M/D through SNE (maybe CNE) remains below normal?

Solidly below normal for snowfall so far. But retention has been good. Been continuous snow cover save for 2 days since 1/11 plus had a decent stretch in December with cover (including Xmas)….snowfall is a D for a grade so far but retention and temps bring the overall grade up some.

What's your seasonal total?

I’m a difficult grader.

Weird year. I want to give it an F but I don’t know if I can given the snowfall retention, white Christmas, and below zero temperature in January. I’m still sub 20”.

The last time KBOS had 3 below normal months for temps during winter before this year was 2013-2014.

I think folks are being a bit harsh on the grading but to each his own I guess

There’s a reason the 1980s aren’t remembered fondly around here for those old enough to experience some of those winters.
