I think any 1” or more amounts will be reserved for the eastern end of Long Island. But yea, I guess we get a consolidation prize of a dusting/coating to half an inch tomorrow afternoon/night

I get the disappointment in the season, but at the same time I've had 12 measurable snowfalls totaling 16", albeit 4 of them were <1" and 6 of them were 1-1.5", with only 2 of them in the 3-4" range - but all of them made it look wintry for at least a few hours to a day.  Have had at least a bit of snow coverage much of the winter post 12/20, as it's been cold, preserving the small snowfalls.  If we can get another 1" tomorrow and a couple of 3-4" storms before the winter is over, I'm up to about normal.

For what it’s worth, it’s been cold, too. I know, I know, it hasn’t been cold like it used to be cold, and the planet’s on fire, and we’re all gonna die, and the asteroid is in it’s way, and the kids don’t respect their elders, and pitchers don’t hit anymore… but it has been chilly compared to recent times.

that has to be some sort of record -- 12 snowfalls worth 16 inches........in one season

I don't think we're going to see anymore this year. But I'll admit it's been nice to see some snow coverage; this morning the cold was brutal; if you look at a mall parking lot you'd think we'd just had an epic winter with all the high piles; it's just been so cold they haven't melted. I'm not a fan of this cold, and really would prefer 50 degrees and rain to this. This kind of cold is painful, quite literally.

you must have had more snow than we did, all our piles were gone after that big rainstorm on Sunday

This season is hard to keep dealing with.  But we persist and brush away another consolation coating while someone else gets crushed. Can’t end soon enough.

I'm trying to remember any other season in my lifetime that was anything like this and I can't remember a single one.  Even cold and dry seasons like 1976-77 were a lot snowier than this season has been.

It's hard to find a season with less than 20 inches of snow that was this cold in terms of the means.  No extreme cold yes, but consistent temperatures between 10 and 45 has to be some sort of record.

Its been frustrating.  At least there has been snow nearby.   My place in the southern adirondacks is up to 100" and there is much more northwest and northeast of there.   I know some people are sick of the cold/wind but we've had too many winters with seemingly endless 50 degree stretches - I'd take this year over any of those.

it's not over Manda, you got another good month of winter around these neck of the woods! I'm not giving up

Friday marks the end of prime snow season for the NY metro which runs from roughly December 20th to the Friday after President's Day. Of course it can and probably will snow in March and April but you start to run into significant problems. In some ways sun angle is already an issue. It snowed at my house for 8 hours on Saturday and we ended up with about an inch. And most of that accumulated after 5PM when the sun went down. Other than my cars, I didn't even have to clean it up. My biggest snowfall of the season this year was 5" and it was back in December.

Yep last 3 weeks or so before climo really starts to work against us--hopefully we can score an event or two even if small

Agree. Once you get to 3/15 that’s pretty much all she wrote, even for southern New England, minus some freak, highly anomalous event. At that point you have sun angle, climo and length of day all working very strongly against you

huh ? precip is above normal this month at Central Park after this past weekend storm and another storm next week

We have not had enough. " With below average precipitation conditions remaining the dominant weather pattern statewide, NJ remains in drought warning." Source: NJ DEP, Feb. 19, 2025 update.

It can definitely snow and accumulate through March if it’s heavy enough. Sun angle is only a problem when it’s light and temps are marginal.

you know as well as I do, there's a cap for urban areas when it comes to March, we haven't had a double digit storm in March in many decades.

3-6 inch storm sure and once a decade maybe even an 8 incher.  Based on how the winter has gone, even that much may not be in the cards this time around.

Yeah I had no issues even accumulating to pavement this past Saturday with temps at or above freezing. But if it's too light forget it

My experience is that April snows usually follow blockbuster winters, a sort of gusty FU and middle finger by mother nature; you thought you were done? Wrong, here's another!

Yes the only one I can remember that was different was the April 1997 Fools Day storm and that was sort a bust here with only 1-2 inches when 8-16 inches were predicted. There was more snow both south and north of us.

It's been a pretty decent winter all things considered. Not a blockbuster by any means to say the least and some wasted potential but it's like a funeral in here as if this is '11-'12.
