Krs4Lfe
Pattern never supported a big one. The ULL is just too far east. This is what happens when you fall for pretty Storm maps instead of realizing that the base state doesn’t support one. It’s a shame, it fools even the best among us 5

Either it amps and is mainly a rain event, or it's suppressed and south of us or out to sea. On the rare instance things work out, there is NEVER downstream blocking anymore for god knows what reason, and it becomes a 6 hour progressive event with 3 to 6 inches. Feels impossible to get a 12+ inch event here and there like the good old days. I really am at a stage of almost giving up

Maybe we get an anomaly in March and pick up a 3-6 paste job or two, but for the most part, we can probably close the books on this whole winter. MJO812
What a disaster this was . What looked like a huge snowstorm with all the models agreeing is turning to shit even with a good pattern. Nothing is going our way anymore 1

RU848789
I can only imagine what the weather boards would've looked like in the 70s and 80s, lol. NYC gets a 12" snowstorm about every 4.2 years (37 in 155 years at CPK), but had 13 such storms in the last 30 years, which is one every 2.3 years, so we've been spoiled in the age of the internet. Welcome to climo, as it's barely been 4 years since the last one in 2021. There were 4 in the 70s/80s or 1 every 5 years, which is probably why it seemed they were so rare when I was growing up. 2

Rare as hens teeth hence a large pinch of salt when you see them modeled 5+ days out.

Can't make it up. we had about 24 hours where it looked like we had model consensus to have a major storm and that was D5 and D6. at no point were we in any range to say that a HECS was in play. You can start discussing that possibility 48 hours out, Not in the 4-6 day fantasy range. It is what it is.

EastonSN+
We are probably going to get annihilated with an epic winter next year and all this will be forgotten. Perhaps our 1978, or 94, or 96.

I'm not even sure we had an 8" storm in that span A number of years back someone posted a WINS report from maybe 1975 where they were closing in on 8 inches in the city, and this was really big news....forget the met but he was one of the famous ones. I can attest that 8 inches was a big deal; in 1978 the big Feb storm was surreal; snow up to my waste, and I was already 5'10 ( I'd make it to almost 6 by senior year, and am now shrunk back to 5'9 ).

What gives me solace is my friends and family are all just thrilled with the lack of snow.No one likes it, not even my kids who are 22 and 27 now. All are happy if it never snows again. Even the dogs hate it, expecting me to shovel them a path to do their business....
