Early morning snow got me to 3.0".  Longest duration 3" in history, but for the first time this year I actually made it to the low-end NWS forecast.

You actually got more than that if you had been sweeping your board. But yeah. I am happy to have snow pack again.

5" or 6" depending on where I measure in the yard near downtown silver spring this am. Drippy out there, but still beautiful. The driveway had a huge compaction factor from being warm yesterday (especially compared to the 1/6/25 storm). Only half that on the driveway, slushy stuff that was easy to slide right off.

At 7:30 this morning here in Hybla Valley, there was 6" on top of the car roofs.

Not sure if compaction mattered, but it was my only measurement.

Currently drizzling (water) so the pack should shrink.

It's unusual to have the ground with snow for so many days, from late December. The crocus' will be late this year!

New HRRR and NAM Nest runs have the late afternoon precip starting as snow or sleet for areas northern and central areas (before quickly turning to rain).

Hmmm...to wipe or not wipe the snowboard, that is the question.  I've gotten burned before in marginal temp environments where new snow won't accumulate on bare surfaces.

Probably.  But I only care about what's on the ground.

Looks like it'll be gone tomorrow in any case.  Snowpack is hard to keep here by this time of year.

Pretty happy with temps for this event actually. Still only 27 here. I think we get more frozen this afternoon.

LOL at NWS still having my area at 4-6 when we barely have 2 and it's over.  Just like last time WSW for 3-5 and we got 1.5.  They should start using cm for snow forecasts

Why were you so adamant about the storm being over last night when it was clear on radar it was going to continue? You posted the same thing at 1.5" too. And now, you're reporting around 3" when the lowest report in Montgomery County in the latest PNS is 3.4" and the rest of the reports are 3.6"-6.3".

Your neighborhood must just really have a snow-shield microclimate.

At that time it did look over but we got another 1" overnight to make it not as bad as the last miss.  Just the frustration of getting missed to the south so much

Washington, DC picked up 6.3" of snow. This was the second 6" or above snowstorm this winter. The last time that happened was Winter 2013-2014.

I've posted about this before- the group of winters when DCA has 2 or more 6" storms is extraordinary in terms of final seasonal totals.

I know it won't last long but to me this winter will go down as the winter with snow pack. More than 3 weeks with the last batch in January and now for a day or two. Hopefully more next week!

You know, I have to say even though I haven't gotten much in overall snow amounts this year it has to be considered a success.  The number of days with snow on the ground has been fantastic compared to the usual snow and quickly melt in the next few days.

When I was a kid in southern New England, there was a TV meteorologist (on either a Boston or Providence station) who would calculate "snow depth days" -- adding up each day's snow depth.  I've always liked that as a measure.  A 6" storm with a snowpack that sticks around for a week or two (or three) is much different than one that melts/washes away in a day or two.

Using snow depth days, this has been a very good winter for most of us.

is it within protocol to have a second one sitting in the freezer, ready for a precip switch or just reg 6 hr mark?

Ended up with 8” on the dot, which jives with one of the spotter reports nearby. Looks like we jacked here, which is a nice change of pace.

Took this pic before shoveling early this morning. Look closely enough and you might see the new dude looking out at me from the front door.

Is it considered snow on snow if we still had small piles of snow that fell from our metal roof after the January storm?  Lol

I didn't do a great job measuring, but we got somewhere between 3.5 and 4 inches here on the southern edge of Towson. Not too shabby. I'm more than happy with that given how being on the fringe of these things can go sometimes.

Congrats to the southern crew on your big numbers - and esp to DC-area folks who so often get hosed.
