I feel like most of this is going to fall well after most are already home from school though? (Like on a normal day) - weird. I’d totally understand canceling afterschool activities though.

Yeah. Maybe. As I said earlier, elementary kids don’t get home up my way until after 4. Better safe than sorry

Quite the paradox this place is. It exists because of snow enthusiasts but the vast majority of them are the least happy when it's about to snow or it's actually snowing. Lol. And the avg age is prob upper 30s low 40s.

I know right? The storm isn’t gonna bust and everyone will see snow but it’s just so easy to rile up the weenies

This isn’t wishing for a bust?  Lol

Whatever you need to tell yourself!

lol you’ll be okay. Silly you for taking my whiny ass seriously. Enjoy your snow!

It is strange for sure!  I am going to go outside and enjoy the storm!  Good luck to all!

ps- How much have you gotten, @Bob Chill?

The oldest Ms. J is a student at American U. Just got notice that campus is closing early at 2pm today. She only had one morning class so it does not effect her much. Although she is pet sitting at a house in Chevy Chase and the people are supposed to fly in later today. They have her on standby to stay an extra night if needed.

2.5" with 20 mins of sleet on top and a lull since 10am. Next round coming soon but snow is done for me most likely. Time to root for heavy sleet to hit my 3" guess.

Yep. Balt co let out 3hrs early and we won’t get more than a couple inches

With every kid in BCPS having a laptop these days, there is very little downside to online school from time to time. Literally no reason to "tough it out like we did back in the day".

Sidewalks starting to cave, a few slushy spots forming on pavement. Temp holding steady at 29/27. Heavier bands on the way in from the West.

One thing to remember for those of you refreshing radar every 30s.. LWX has significant blindspots to the West, especially for low level stuff like this. The worst area is WSW pointing towards Harrisonburg and Staunton. In the summer it's not nearly as noticeable with higher cloud tops. You need to check the Roanoke and Charleston radars to get a better idea of what's headed over the mountains into NoVA.

I always ask myself what's the point of building all this tech if we're not trying to make our lives easier.

Yeah I don’t care much about what school decides to do. If they close my kid is still learning from home. I can imagine it’s tougher for elementary kids though.

That was the best and worst thing about living in Cville... never knowing what was gonna happen. Radar would show nada and it would snow for two hours longer.

They need to stick a radar dish up on Afton... tear up the abandoned hotel (but leave room for the birders!)

Not panicking, but I’m pretty sure the 06z NAM had precip overspreading the area by 11am - we aren’t even remotely close to that. WSW is for 1 so yeah, I’d assume a bit after that.

Still, it’s DRY here - which is ironic because people were saying we wouldn’t have the virga issues we had on 1/6 lol.

06 NAM was between 1-2pm And just because the sim radar shows something doesnt mean its hitting the ground.  I do remember u from accuweather… lol

flurries have begun, 34/17.

the pot roast is in the slow cooker and the house smells great. and I'm glad this thing is staying south so I have zero issues getting to my appointment on Thursday--i had one cataract removed and the world has been a weird place for the last 10 days. I need to even up my sight. have you tried cooking when your depth perception is out of whack? knives are not your friend.

It is. But if I'm the superintendent making the choice, I either close school and everyone logs in from home and I still get my funding and credit for a school day, or I make everyone come in and run the very low risk of a bus sliding off the road and overturning in a ditch? Slam dunk easy choice there. It's the new reality.

Snowing enough that i don't have to squint or have a solid background to see. Win so far in my log book

Yup same, every few minutes the flakes get big (only for a second or two) then back to flurries, kinda interesting.

Moving some hay around for horses with the tractor and it’s almost windshield wiper time.

Ok, more like windshield “wipe” time.

Actually as I’m typing the flurries just filled in a bunch, don’t have to look for it now - borderline snow.

edit: Just checked RadarScope and STATE COLLEGE 110mi north has snow reports also? That’s crazy they filled in the same time as DC suburbs and it’s been snowing since sunrise in RIC lol.

Yep. I don’t hate the call to early dismiss today.

I don't understand all of the bust talk. The Euro/GFS/NAM all look solid for DC and ok for the 70 and south crew. Could it bust and the HRRR be right? Sure, but that would be a huge model bust among basically all the best models. Even CMC didn't look that bad IIRC.

And THEN remember there is a giant 'hole' thru eastern Alleghany up thru Highland county from Roanoke radar site.
