And I moved from N Virginia in Feb 2021 to what I thought would be a slightly snowier climate. I should have known in that the day of the walk thru in Jan 2021 ( a Sunday morning) the plows were out in my old neighborhood, and the folks up in Lutherville wondered why I was wondering if the walk through was still on.

Downtown Frederick doesn’t get too much more snow than DC due to it being in a valley and I think averages a little less than the Clarksburg area. Catoctins fare better, though. In general, we just haven’t had the right pattern, maybe in some ways related to the drought conditions the last couple summers.

3” yesterday and into this morning, 20.5” now on the season.

If our area can get above 30” this season with weeks of snow cover in January and one good thump, I’ll consider it a win in a niña winter - especially after the last few ratters we had.

Gimme us a modoki niño next year and it’s game on

Oh hey there’s a glass. I should put that in the sink. Look at this mail over here. I should open that first. Christmas tree is still up. I should go get the storage bins, take some of the decorations off and then just walk away.

I got a very real looking artificial Christmas tree this past year and I’ll admit that it’s still up! I have had friends over and they can’t believe that it is still holding its needles. I refuse to tell them why.

My Christmas tree is still up!  One year I left it up until July. Actually 2 years. but July is the record.

One year when son was still home we turned it into a St Patrick's Day tree (his B-day). Down around end of Jan this year, sorta on average for here.

Boy did we dodge a bullet here. Temp ran 31.8-32.2 all evening /night with light rain. A small glaze on the trees, but looking across to the ridge in front of house there is a LOT more ice starting 1500 or so ft elevation. I could hear a distant 'pop' once in a while when outside doing CoCoRaHS this morning. Lost about 1/2 of the snowpack to compaction and melting from the rain/drizzle (0.62 inches). SWE this morning was 1.53" on a 6.5 average snow depth.
