I’m so disappointed I didn’t just stick with 4-8.

still was too high but ofc would have been better. Working on a map now..this was 3-6 for almost all of CT

GFS QPF was bong worthy down there. This was your 00z 12hr QPF with the event already underway and then actual totals.

S CT was pretty wet. 0.5-0.8 there.

Euro had .80 here at 18z. Both blew Jack dick

HRRR nailed it for CT within 5 hours of start.  Quick 3 hour shot, followed by the sleet depiction - which was basically the dry slot working in.  I ended with a very thin Creme Brule coating on top of about 3.3"

As Tip mentioned, the sleet might have been just enough for some of us to miss the 6" warning threshold.

its weird how the HRRR  precip maps showed sleet yesterday but soundings looked like all snow.. maybe the soundings were off but showing correctly on precip maps?

Could it be that you don't get crystal/flake growth, and that's what it shows as sleet/ice pellets?

Yeah that was very odd.

Was hoping to have double this but there’s been snowcover on the ground more often than not this winter around here . And with some meat in these last two and a few more light - moderate events this week.. I’ll take it

You know you have something solid when you’re shoveling with both an icy layer on top and blue in the meat of the pack. It should last a while.

I don’t think I had any sleet here. There was a tiny glaze of zr crust though

I assume you and others realize that missing 6” due to sleet is deceptive since water content is same and sleet is more durable and problematic on roads than snow. Shouldn’t warning threshold in theory be lower if % that’s sleet is higher? Example: 3” snow and 2” of sleet (5” total) is a bigger deal on roads than 6” or even 7” of pure snow.

 Opinions?

I think impact-wise it makes sense but it’s really hard to verify so the snowfall threshold is just easier to stick with.
